Hey gang, just a little curious here on what a Tales From the Crypt pinball in decent working condition goes for. I'm not looking to buy one right now or anytime REAL soon, but sometime within the next couple years I may try to get one if my bonuses go right.

Also, is this a desirable pin? I loved this thing, but I'm not a pin guy and I'm sure there are better games. So if you guys have a suggestion of a Pin that will knock my socks off - and totally null out my nostalgia for the pin and the theme, I'm all ears. I love the haunted style games as well...But I don't enjoy haunting prices. LOL

You can check out pinpedia or bostonpinball for an idea of average sales prices:

Looks like TFTC has been selling at around $1200-1500. That sounds about right to me -- I've seen a few posted on craigslist for $1100 to $1500. You might be able to find one for around a grand (or even a little less), but you'd probably have to act quickly to get it.

I personally like TFTC a lot. I think it is a pretty fun game with several fun shots, and for the price, I think you get a lot of value.

If you are into the horror theme, you are in luck, as it was a pretty common theme. Some other pins you might want to check out in the sub-$1500 range are Elvira and the Party Monsters (a fun machine but no DMD), Haunted House (also no DMD but multiple playfield levels), Bram Stoker's Dracula, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Freddy. All of these pins can usually be found for well under $1500.

And if you are willing to pay $3K+, then you've got a few more options with machines that are usually ranked around the top 10 of all time: Addams Family, Monster Bash, Creature from the Black Lagoon (which you might be able to land for around $2K if you are lucky), and Scared Stiff.

If you don't have any games to play on location nearby, I'd recommend downloading virtual pinball and checking out the games on your computer before buying anything to see if you generally like the game before making a purchase.

And if you are looking for a value pin outside the horror theme realm, pinside.com has a list of games that give you the most bang for the buck (aka affordable yet fun pins):

I just noticed TFTC is no. 14 on that list, so it looks like my impressions of the machine are pretty typical.

Anyway, good luck with the search. Once you get that machine, you will probably be hooked.

A million thanks WonderPuddle, that's one of the best responses I've had to a question on here. Thanks for all the info and time you put into throwing that up for me!

I'm sure I'll get hooked if I take the plunge on this one, I would do all spooky themed pins - For the last couple years I've thought of doing a Haunted theme video/pin section. a couple pins and vids like ghosts n' goblins, Vs. Castlevania, and a Darkstalkers fighter cab.

Thanks again and hope to see you around the boards!

I've tried to stick to a horror theme for my game room as well. There are quite a few horror titles out there. You should probably try to play them before you buy them as some of them fall a little flat and everyone has their own unique tastes when it comes to pinball. I ultimately branched out to include horror-scifi as this opens the door for some great titles like Twilight Zone, Attack from Mars and Black Hole. Other lesser known straight horror titles to look out for might include Class of 1812, Mystery Castle, Spooksville or Bone Buster's Inc.
Having said that, TFTC is a very solid title. I owned one for several years before trading it out and it really is an exciting game. If you don't mind the feel of a Data East (some hate it), you shouldn't be dissapointed. IMHO though, Bram Stoker's Dracula or (if you can find one) Mystery Castle are better horror titles in that same price range.
