Hi everyone. I recently purchased this Taito upright machine. It runs and has a Jamma board in it, called 'Exiting Soccer'. It plays Tequila, as the game song. Now my knowledge of these things is nothing! But I like them, so I got one, and hope at least return it to it's former self.
Would have this been the original game in it?

The coin door needs a lock, and the coin box is missing. It needs a good clean up, too.

Taito machine, is this a good thing?

I dunno much about all this stuff. But I figure if I start playing around if the power is on, I may get a shock!

Anyhow, looking forward to some comments, good or bad!

Welcome to the message board and the hobby. I have never seen that cabinet before. I am pretty sure that is not the original game that was in it. I am sure someone on here will be able to identify it. I would not poke around anything that has to do with the monitor with the game on or off. That includes the monitor chassis that is on the left side looking at the back. When you do get around to converting it back to original post questions and people on here can walk you through how to work with the monitor. If it is working just enjoy it for now, I mean if the game that is in it is fun. It is a cool looking cabinet.

I believe that's a Taito Space Chaser cabinet: http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9644 ... yours is kinda funny looking, possibly because it's an international version (240V label on the back), or because someone chopped the top off (if it was chopped, it looks like they did a nice job).

Good luck with it!

I should have mentioned that the machine and me are in Australia, so I suppose it would be an 'international' model. It never occurred to me that there would be any difference.
The pictures on that game are the same, DogP, thanks for that link. I was playing the game today, and it plays well, and it is fun, but I think I may change it to something else a bit more popular for the era, like Donkey kong, or Galaga. I got safe screwdriver and even figured out how turn the sound down on the PCB. It was too loud for me. I wanna get get a table version of these types of games. Here we call them 'cocktail table' arcade game. I will probably get one off Ebay, but it will probably be busted, as working ones pull at least $500 aussie dollars. I think I could fix it, as I am pretty dedicated to things I start, but I would need some guidance. This forum is great, I downloaded a book, called The Book, and how to use a multimeter guide. I don't wanna die with this hobby!
Thanks for the replies, too.

Ah... yeah, if you're in AU, I wouldn't be surprised if that's how the cabinet was originally. It's pretty common for different countries to have different cabinet styles. "The Book" is definitely good to read... just be careful, think/read before jumping into something and you should be good.

I have decided to convert my game to a Jamma system. I will probably need a bit of advice, as I have never done one before. I am determined to succeed though!

I purchased this,

It seems to be bundled into various parts. Like the power cables and control cables. The monitor connection as square part on the end...

The machine has a video cable, but it goes direct to the non jamma pcb connection.

Anyhow, thanks in advance for any guidance!

Hey there,

I've also just taken up the hobby kind of. I've bought a Jaleco Pony Mark II or Mark III, not quite sure, with Football Champ, Sky Smasher and Cabal PCBs for 200$ and everything works fine I'm happy :)
I just wanted to know where I could get that Book you're talking about, and if you can give me any sources of information for newbies, since I'd also love to work on repairing old PCBs and knowing more about how the cabinets work in general. (I've obviously been at the brink of death quite a few times working around in the cabinet while it was powered on)

So anyways, sorry about not contributing anything to your thread, but I hope you can help a fellow newbie out a little :)

I am gonna tidy up the whole thing, a bit of paint in the right spots, but leave that design on the sides. I have new lock and will paint the door, and make a coin box door. I got this too for the marquee section! ...

I just need to figure out how to put in this Jamma kit!!!

I sure hope someone helps me out a bit!

I remember seeing this cab on Aus eBay, congrats on taking the plunge. Pretty sure this is an original Space Chaser cab that has been chopped up into lowboy style. There are not many dedicated cabs in Aus, but the few that do pop up ever now and then are Galaxian, Space Chaser and Taito cabs.

I converted the machine today, and it was fairly easy to do. I am pretty chuffed as I had no idea what I was doing, but it worked out fine.

I now have a 4 in 1 board that has:
GALAGA, SPACE INVADERS, FROGGER and PACMAN.

It plays well and it is heaps more fun. The old Exiting Soccer game was a good game, but not my taste. Now I have to purchase some black paint, and a can of 'hammertone' for the coin door.

The PCB board has 4 drop switches that I have to figure out what they do. Auto fire on Galaga and SI would be even better, but I dunno how to set them. I wonder if there is and easy and hard setting also???

Anyhow I will take some pics and post them as I get further.

Oh I put the lock in and it fits perfectly! This is going great...so far!!!

No I would never paint over that! I was just gonna touch up a bit of the black trim! But there was no need...I just got a bit of spray cleaner and it came up great! It now sits in the family room and it works a treat! There are a few faint lines through the monitor, they run vertical, but it will do for now. I must say I am very pleased with the progress, I turned a run down cabinet, with a pretty ordinary game into a MACHINE! Every one wants a go on it!
