Taito Super Chase powers up but no sound or picture

I have a Taito Super Chase game that probably hasn't been turned on in a few years. At that time, it worked fine. I tried to power it up today and you can hear it come on but there is no sound or picture.

It appears that everything is hooked up, so I'm not sure where to start looking.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance,

Rick

Rick,
You said that you can hear it come on, but there is no sound or picture. What do you mean by "hear it come on"?

#1 Rule - Always check the power supply voltages.

Coin it up and see if it "plays blind"... If it does, it's a most likely a monitor issue.

If not, then try re-seating connections, and chips...

Most failures I have seen have been power related.

IE recently: Millipede 5v regulator was bad. NeoGeo bad capacitors (AT type PS). Super Street Fighter II bad PS capacitors (AT type PS). Smash TV bad PS capacitors (standard switcher). Spy Hunter turned on garbled video, voltages checked out ok, and game worked in another cab, re-built power supply, is now working.

My Satan's Hollow worked after re-seating all the roms... This also cleared up an issue with my Champ Sprint.

+1

Power issues are quite common and often overlooked, so much so that is why I put something about them in my signature.

Thanks for the replies!

I just read what I wrote and it doesn't make much sense, sorry about that.

When I turn it on I hear "power" from what I think would be the power supply, but the screen is dark and none of the game lights or sound effects seem to work.

That is probably the high voltage that you hear coming from the monitor, and not the power supply. Regardless, there are two things you can do right off the bat.

1. As these fine gentlemen pointed out, you need to check the power supply. This is done at the jamma connector (where all of the wires connector to the pcb board). You have to use a multimeter for this and do not take the pcb board off. Simply turn on your game and test it as it sits. If your voltages are off then your board will not turn on. (I would imagine this is the problem)

2. When you look at the chassis of your monitor, there is a flyback with two knobs on it. One will say "Screen". Turn this up and see if your monitor display shows a white screen (raster).

Let us know how this turns out. Good luck.

I know it's been a while, but with work and the holidays I was busy. Finally installed a new power supply today and it came right on, thanks for the recommendations!

Now the game works and the sound doesn't. Suggestions on where to look?

Thanks,

Rick

Were back to testing the power. Most games run on 5v for the game and 12v for sound... check you have all of the propper voltages then we can go further.
