Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

What color t-mold goes on there? You didnt happen to find a match to your accent stencil color did ya? That would be slick.

Nice..I appreciate your info my good friend..I'll be tackling this project down the road when I do a zookeeper cab...
Good job on the sanding the mountains..I guess the ultimate goal is to do as little filling as possible to..that finish you got is super nice..looks better than newer cabs I've seen..

Black leather textured. Tan leather textured would be the bombdiggity benis.

Thanks Rick, It really does look new. I sometimes am in disbelief it was a stencil that I painted myself.

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Restore"

Phet, amazing work as always. Restenciling a cab is just about the highest form of restoration there is.

A Phet restoration thread is like sitting down to enjoy a good book, you know it's going to turn out great before you ever start reading.

Thanks Mike. Now I AM blushing. When are you gonna start on a Taito '36 in 1' or a similar Taito multi? I'd buy one.

Realise this is months old .. but have to chime in. Having only returned to the hobby in the last few months ... still trolling the net to catch up on what's been going on in the arcade world the last 4 years of being away!!

Beautiful. Absolutely looks gr8 Phetish!!

So nice to see these stencils at work!! Big thumbs to the legend proK for making extensive corrections to my raw files. They're probably more his than ours now, from the sounds of the level of correction :) For reference sake .. I originally compiled the files years ago solely from measurements made of the original sideart, when I teamed up with Wade'o, whose been so helpful to me on heaps of arcade related stuff I don't have access too. I live in Australia, and the Taito cabs never came here with this sideart. I compiled the file in cad first (due to me receiving data in inches only), then moved it to illustrator, trying to correct it as much as I could. In the end.. had to make a decision to stop. My sole plan was build a replica Jungle Hunt (game close to my heart from the 80's days) based on this sideart.

Now that I'm back in the hobby... my original project is back.... and probably more because of proks stencils. But seeing Phetishs job just gives me a huge kick in the ass to do this.

Well done lads. Bring it!!

Thanks man. Thanks for starting the vector file in the first place. pr0k did a wonderful job on clean-up and the details, and the stencils really do work well. I have another set of these, and will be starting on my Jungle King soon. I really wanna see them in green.

Did this game get shipped out yet? Man, i would be a nervous wreck waiting to see if it arrived in good shape. Did you spray any of that Phet or was it all rolled ? Either way it looks great and is motivating me to take on my Defender and Robo min projects. Just waiting for the weather here in Boise to cool off a bit, its just way too hot out to get anything like that done.

It's getting shipped this coming week I do believe, at least shipping to SoCal has been set up by the buyer. I rolled it Dave, then sprayed the clear coat after stenciling. I sanded the base coats with 180 then 220 between coats (2) and before the stencil, and 220 then 320 between stencil coats to take much of the orange peel texture down. It was minimal to begin with. Then I sanded the stencil edges with 320 then #0000 Steel wool to remove the abrupt ridge line. The key when rolling a stencil for me was to 'dry-roll' or roll some of the paint off onto cardboard before applying the paint to the cab. Prevents bleeds and thickness issues.

BTW, when i pulled some Ms Pacs out of an ops warehouse along time ago, the pink stripe on the front was really faded, so i taped it and rolled it and it actually came out really nice so I can see the potential for rolling it.

i think you should plan a little vacation to Boise and help me work on my Robo and Defender.

I love that area, but maybe you missed my 11 projects, no time thread? When all 11 of my projects are done, I'll give you a ring with my flight info.

I'm thoroughly impressed that you rolled it. That give me hope. I don't have any place that's convenient to spray.

And I've got a Frontline cabinet that needs totally redone.

Also, interesting idea to sand the edges of the stencil paint to smooth the ridge :cool3:
