Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

I like bringing them back from the dead. I used the square method on this one to make sure the sides were pretty flush and level. It worked.

... or your willingness to polish a turd.

Wade

No doubt! There's this thing called a router pattern bit. it works wonders when you have an intact side with water damage that you are gonna paint anyways.

Still, it looks good and you're happy.

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

It wasn't damaged, just blemished. The blemishes are gone, and the integrity of the cab is still there. Don't give me that patronizing 'if you're happy' BS. The cab is in great shape now. My happiness does not play a factor. It simply is what it is. Now good day to you sir. (And don't forget to set aside that light fixture for me, my esteemed friend Shar.)

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

Trust me, I would have done the exact same thing you did. However, armchair quarterbacking gives a much better view of the overall picture. A sheet of particle board, 5 minutes of routing and you would have been done.

And no worries you old bastard, that light fixture has your name on it.

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

Wow. Nice work again. It seems you're running a one-man factory line there. Is this "zen work" for you?

My Galaga has a ski-slope looking taper on the bottom 8 inches on both sides due to water swelling damage. I've been perplexed as to how I can sand it down level again, but I don't know how to do that short of disassembly and running them through a wood planer. Perhaps I will try your method.

Oh, and you still haven't migrated to a sprayer yet, the finish looks great for a roll-job.

Yeah it worked well. Here is a better before and after comparison pic of the repaired swelling:

BTB, 3 pieces of T-molding and an in-line fuse holder and she's done:

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

New monitor?

And why is that nintendo cab upside down?

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

New monitor?

Recapped used monitor, very little burn

And why is that nintendo cab upside down?

I built a new base for it and I wanted to let gravity pull some glue into the bottom of the somewhat frayed cab sides. Ever tried to shoot glue upward?

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

I always wonder if those easy ones will just be quietly and respectfully left alone. Not on your watch. No sir, not on your watch.

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

I just re-read it. You said "glue". I coulda sworn you said "goo."

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

That is a hell of a job Shawn as usual. Especially considering those taito cabs swell just from a touch of moisture..I'm excited that zookeeper art is on the way...
Anyone know off hand..what cabs are same dimensions as zookeeper...Qix..???

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

I think Qix is in the same cab as the one I just did. I would LOVE a Zookeeper. I have never seen one locally. I will start my Jungle King and my own Elevator Action restores next. Maybe by the time I am done, I will have found a Zookeeper. I single-handedly plan on keeping prOk employed for many moons.

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

When you sanded that cab..did you have any issues with peeling of the old artwork from the MDF..or what method did you use..that would be my concern in sanding..since it doesn't act like wood..??

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

It's a painted stencil. I used 80 grit, then wood hardener, then 120 and 220 grits. After that I primed it and it was solid and smooth. Best part is, since I sanded away the mountains rather than filled in the valleys, all that remains is solid MDF, rather than 30% bondo.

Re: Taito Stenciling Project-Elevator Action "Rest

is it just me or is the shaft on that joystick too long?

Yeah, it's a standard 3.5" Wico. That's what the game had on it, and I like a longer shaft. If the new owner prefers the original shorter one he can always replace it.
