Finally got my Trimline up and running last night. Aside from a monitor pinch, it played fine... except every time you fire it has the highest-pitched, ear-deafening shriek. I adjusted all the sound pots on the board and it didn't do anything to diminish it. The UFO sound was also very loud while the remaining sounds were very low.

Checked all the pots for cold-solder points, but the fire sound is unnaturally wrong, not just like the volume is turned up to 11.

Sounds like a ROM issue. I'd email Alex at Elektron Forge. I don't know SI boards too well. He could probably steer you in the right direction.

I'll try, but I think he only does Midway SI, not Taito. I have another Taito SI 3-stack so I might pull the sound ROM off it and switch (if I can identify it).

Highly doubt its a rom issue - chances are it has the same bad Lm3900 issues as the midway boardsets.

That said...if its a squeal..it could also be a dead noise generator circuit too (two different chips..i wanna say a 4060 and something else)

The Taito boards, while in a stack, are very simliar to the Midway ones. In some cases they ARE Midway ones if its the l-shaped set with a soldered on harness.

Yep, It's not a ROM. Space Invaders doesn't have a "sound ROM".
