Hi guys

Long time, no see.

I have been pointed out by a friend about this cabinet for sale here in Chile. What intrigues me is not the cabinet (it has been heavily modified an it's running Snow Bros), but the marquee. Please take a look at the picture:

As you can see, it has the typical Taito Taitronics sign on the left hand. The title on the marquee says SPACE FIREBIRDS.

I have researched on the subject, and I was able to find only information related to SPACE FIREBIRD (no S). This was released by Nintendo and SEGA/Gremlin on 1980:

That's all I have been able to find.

Do you have any information about this Taito game?
Is this the same as the Nintendo - Sega/Gremlin release?
Why the S at the end of the name?

Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Louis BQ

That's pretty cool!

A lot of Japanese manufacturers seemed to license (and I believe copyright laws might've been a bit lax!) games to multiple other Japanese companies, so you would see Tehkan, Sega, Taito Donkey Kong and Taito Galaxian, Puckman, etc.

Not sure if it was sort of a regional/distribution thing.

Fascinating!! Maybe like others have said Taito licensed the game in Chile and/or other nearby countries and tweaked the name for some reason? Maybe copyright? Super cool!!

This intrigues me even more. Logic says that US games should be common in Southamerica. However, original japanese cabinets were popular in Chile. I have the fresh memory of playing back in the day the Taito version of Defender, instead the Williams original version. I even remember having played other popular Taito games in their original cabinet, games like Space Invaders (cocktail), Front Line, Jungle King, and many others. In fact, I believe I have played on some Taito cabinets that I think are somehow rare or at least scarce. Local arcade company (now defunct) called DELTA (The competition of still in business DIANA) had these little yellow Taito cabinets (I think with dimmensions more or less similar to a cabaret cabinet) and named them DELTA JUNIOR:

These are original Taito cabinets, and I have found very little information on these. These were intended for Kids...

More information on these will also be appreciated.

Kind regards,
