First off, is the joystick on Zoo Keeper supposed to be the same as Jungle Hunt? My Jungle Hunt has a very short stick. Actually, I have two Jungle Hunt control panels with the SAME original short wico style sticks. So, I am deducing that these sticks are right. And, it seems right to me. It fits the game play. According to the Zoo Keeper manual, it requires this same joystick. It has the same part number as the Jungle Hunt joystick. And, it's described as "short stick". "Part No. 63-00031-001 Ball & Shaft (Short)"

I put this same stick on my Zoo Keeper and it seems too short for this type of game play. But, again, according to the manual it should be the same as Jungle Hunt.

So, is Zoo Keeper supposed to use this same short stick or does it use a stick in length like Frogger?

I have two Froggers with original joysticks and they are 4 way versions of this stick TAITO uses but the ball and shaft is much longer than the ones on my two Jungle Hunt CPs. Is this the right stick for Zoo Keeper originally (the manual is wrong?) or did they use the Jungle Hunt style short stick?!?

Anyone have any replacement parts for these joysticks?

I could use:

#10 (two) and #4

A very recent pic from Joe's thread confirms the short shaft (tee hee)

Ok, cool. The previous owner or operator or whoever crammed, and I mean CRAMMED, a Midway style Ms. Pac ball and shaft into this wico style shaft. They must have hammered it in. It was impossible to get out. I actually got pretty used to playing the game with it and now this shorter stick seems foreign.

taito stick grommets do not fit standard wico. The grommet is a tough part to find.

i've got spacers...

John,

I told you i've got tatio parts :) All u have to do is stop by..
As for the grommet.. yeah, it's a BITCH to find.. Took me awhile to get one for my JK.. I may have an extra though.. Plenty of spacers..

Does the metal washer go above or below the grommet?

The one I pulled off my extra Jungle Hunt CPO had a plastic washer and a metal washer like the one Cleverly linked to. If I put the metal washer closer to the joystick the joystick is stiff. So, I pulled it out.

Spacers I need. I have a metal and a plastic one.

According to the manual it should be two plastic, I think.

Thanks, pal!

Hey Jim, That pictured grommet is for a Dig Dug, Robotron, Congo Bongo type Wico stick. The Taito/Zookeeper one is quite a bit smaller.

Edward

arggh. ok. i did a search online for taito joysticks and came up with pretty much zilch. seems like there's not much info on them.

BTW - played a ton of ZK last night and the small joystick feels perfect to me now. I think it was just shock cause I got used to that Midway ball and shaft. Coolio!

I broke 100k last night. I suck!

100K is good, man. Especially for those of us who haven't been playing the game for 5, 10, 15, 20 years. I played a bunch last night also. 260K was my best game. Still haven't broken into the 400K's yet. That Lion level absolutely murders me :(

My high score on Zoo Keeper (Multi-Taito style): 205,250...

My greed on the "jumping" stages usually does me in.

Seems they don't give you a choice though. Some of those crazy levels have 1 net, and it comes first in the sequence. Its impossible for me to keep any animals in.
