Hey guys.

I bought the arcadeshop switching power supply and I have it at 5.03 DCV. After 1/2 hour, the red channel turns off (green and blue images) and the mines that show on the first stage start showing up like crazy.

What should the 5 DCV be at?

Is this a voltage issues or a board issue?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds more like a monitor issue. Possibilities include a weak red gun or a bad connection somewhere on the neck board. I'd start by looking over the monitor's neck board for signs of a bad connection. If it looks solid, put a rejuvenator on the tube to check its strength.

Before you do all of that, though, do you have another known good working monitor you can connect to the game temporarily? That would help you rule out monitor problems.

Ok thanks. Just brought this home from Chad at arcadecup. He rejuved and the picture was awesome until this happened. I'll give Chad a call and will try another monitor. Thanks.

What about the extra landmines? Any FL owners out there?

Had the 5V pretty high on the switching power supply. Adjusted and all is good with that.

Connected the pcb to another 4900 monitor and there is something wrong with the monitor. No red.

Thanks SanTe.

Taitos of this era used a long skinny interconnect pcb..
Reseat all the connectors.. Look for pins in connects that bent or just tired.

Better yet:

Pull it off and reflow the solder under all the header pins.. Also, there is a HV connector next to the main connector on the pcb.. Like 6 or 8 wires, can't remember.. Replace it with a new one with new pins..

Hmm, weird. You'd said it was at 5.03 which is about perfect, so I assumed your power was good. People usually set the +5V a tad high to account for slight voltage drop as the current moves forward through wires and connections. Usually 5.05 is ideal but some games aren't happy until you bump it to 5.1. No higher though. Any higher than 5.1 and it'll burn up the connections before long and could damage other components.

Sweet. I'm no expert but I've seen cases where a rejuvenated monitor was fine initially but then went south a short while later. Sometimes the tubes are just tired and can't be saved.

Per the message above, I'm checking at the power supply . Where should the 5.1 be at?

Yeah, kind of sucks but I left Chad at arcade cup a message. Hoping he can help me out.

Should have 5v at board. Check the voltage on board at an IC chip my guess its around 4.5v

I wouldn't think this is a monitor issue- especially with the mines showing up everywhere.

It's a glitch- maybe due to low voltage or something. Lots of these boards get flaky over the years. You should be able to find a good spot to measure the +5V on the PCB. Measure it at a TTL chip if necessary.

I wouldn't adjust it up beyond 5.1VDC.

(of course, the mines could be a PCB issue and the color dropout could be something with the monitor). Check the board first. The edge connectors get weak over time too. Wiggle some wires when the color drops out. You can get a kit from Bob Roberts (similar to the Pac edge connector kit) and a good crimper and redo your plug.
