Ok, I've got a PILE of Qix and zookeeper CPU pcbs..all are non working.. Does anyone know a reputable tech that can fix these? Please let me know, as my ZK is on the fritz :(

Thanks!

Yuck.

Man.. I was really hoping there was someone else out there.. Not a fan of EG.. Sent them a pcb when I first started collecting many years ago.. Took them 6 months to exchange it.. Guess what? I got my same broken pcb back.. Awesome.

Don't shoot the messenger, but the only people that I know who fix Qix & ZK are eldorado games.
Sorry

Out of curiosity, what makes these boards so hard to work on? Did they do a really screwy design or something else? They do look intimidating compared to a single board design :D

Here's a look at the bs Taito ZK design.

Yes, I know that :D I have several Taitos... including a ZK.

I'm just curious as to what makes it more challenging to work on compared to any other board set? I know the schematics are ugly, but I have never attempted to work on a ZK board, etc.. and was just wondering if it's something I even want to attempt.

They probably aren't any more difficult to work on once you have a wiring loom set up for them on your work bench. However I imagine most people cant be bothered to invest the time setting up a repair bench for such a niche design.

Honestly I think if it's possible to rig up a jamma adapter for the board (not sure it is) then you could probably send it with adapter to a few people to have it fixed. Can't speak for other areas but I think if you called around places in California you would find at least one repair shop that would do it but expect a minimum of $150 plus shipping and parts per board.

Do you have a list of what CPU reports what in test mode? Based on test mode output we may be able to give some advice on what to try.

I have a Jamma harness for Zookeeper for when I had to debug a few sets I had.

Reports..

I have the CPU code key stapled above the CPU.. Some of them come up with ram issues.. Which I then replace the ram, and it may change or stay with that code.. Some have handshake issues, some dont light up.. Some all the lights are on.. Each one is a different animal..

What I'd like to do, is test them without the rom and sound board attached.. So I could figure out if I'm having a CPU issue or rom issue..

Kills me, as I had 3 working perfectly.. Then I tested a few rom boards and now none of the CPUs work.. Eh

Yeah, I had a few cases where it would report bad rams. I'd replace the rams and it would still complains about the ram. Replacing the sockets however fixed it.

The ribbon cables are also notorious for going bad; may want to do a continuity check on the one you're testing with.
