I picked up a Chase HQ with a "Loacal RAM Error" for cheap. I figure it's just a matter of pulling and resetting the chips. I bought a untested board set off ebay (witch is very trashed), hoping between the two, I will be able to get this going.

Question 1: Which chips on the board are the RAM? I assume they are on the main board, not the video board.

Question 2: On both board sets, pins 1 & 2 on the JAMMA harness are fried. On the board that was in the game, someone hard wired the pins directly to the power supply. Does anyone know what caused this?

1) It wont be a case of pulling and reseating chips I'm afraid, your board has TMM2063 SRAM chips which are a very common fault on gear this age. I rarely see any of those chips that are still working. What CHQ calls "Local RAM" is IC28 and IC35 on the main board. Replacements are easy to get, just don't buy TMMs.

2) Fried pins on edge connectors are cause by anything that causes the resistance to fall on that path, the current goes up and the voltage sags. Common reasons are oxidised edge connectors, poorly fitting wiring looms (ie not tight) and also too thin wiring on the 5V and ground paths to the PSU. I had a CHQ cab once where the power cabling was very puny, and on that board the edge fingers looks rather baked as a result.

Thanks, Man! I did a search for the non TMM chips, and came up with nothing. What is the right chip I need, and where can I get them?

Bob Roberts has replacement chips for these. It looks like Womble already scouted out the chip locations for you. Put an order in with Bob and get those babies swapped out! :D
