I'm sanding down my Front Line cabinet and getting ready to apply some bondo, but this wood is so cheap, its leaving a "fuzzy" appearance. Therefore I'm having a hard time getting this surface completely smooth.

I guess once I apply some primer, this will go away??

Just wondering....thanks in advance.

Automotive polyester 2k primer. It's like spray body filler and it will cover anything.

You can even roll it on. It's not that expensive either.

It's catalyzed and will get very hard

It's not wood like you're think of. It's MDF, and from Wikipedia - is an engineered wood product formed by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure.

If it gets wet, it swells like a sponge. If you sand it, it's a bit rough. Like he said, need a filler/primer, sand, primer, sand, etc..you have to build the surface.

i've got a soft spot on top of my Pac Man i'm trying to fix...i feel your pain.

I'm using Minwax Wood Hardener and just doing several applications of that...so far its working good...i've sanded it down 3 times now and when i started you could literally poke a finger through it if you wanted to it was so soft...now it's really starting to harden up after the 3rd coat...i'm going to do 2 more and then prime it and see how it goes.

The surface was pretty smooth to sand after the first coat though...so you might want to get a gallon and just apply one coat or two...it will probably harden it up and give you a smooth surface to work with.

Thanks for the tips guys. I just did a search and got some wild results. Is there a brand of choice for this polyester 2k primer?

And what does 2k stand for?
