have alook at the pics and board id nos listed in this thread here
EDIT: (link deleted - see post no 3 below)

there are a few taito 2/3 layer oddballs not listed in the www.mikesarcade.com.au taito board id list or in the coinop.org list., and
ditto to the two that look like taito L shaped boards.

can anyone help out with the games those board ids were part of ?

andy.. the 3 layer taito board...

we can quickly rule out of the middle layer ( ram / cpu ).. they are all the same on all 3 layer taito boards.

your upper board looks like a space invaders part 1 B&W
the bottom layer has enough sockets to house a part 2 SI , Lunar rescue etc etc

something i have noticed....

the upper layer and bottom layer both must be compatable in order to work.

example... we cant put a SI part 1 upper layer with a bottom layer SI pt2 roms.. it simply wont work.

i have seen the same upper layer in space invaders cocktail games , B&W , i have approx 10 of them here , yet to test......

your bottom layer... i have a board here also with only 5 roms.
we can rule out its not
space invaders
space invaders p2
lunar rescue

or.. you could be simply missing roms....

the to daughter boards.. ugh. i dont know.. still investigating.
i can clearly rule out its not :

clowns
invaders revenge
space invaders
space invaders part 2
sea wolf.

maybe go do a search for black and white games :)
andy is the daughter boards stamped taito or midway ?

lol silly me.. there stamped.

andy if you want i can test the second and 3rd layer for you on the 3 layer board.

im yet to wire up a harness to test your upper board and my odd ten i have here.

she will have to run to a B&W monitor.

i now have 4 working middle layer boards ( ram / cpu )

im still trying to understand the relationship between the upper and lower boards.
i believe one of my sets its not compatible and some shonky ebay seller just bundled it together to make it look like a complete set lol.

forgot to mention - boards are not mine - just tryin to figure out their place in the world of taito etc!

boards are taito

I have one of these boardsets and it is on my pile of stuff to test. Do all of these boards use a standard pinout, and is it posted somewhere?

are u referring to the 2/3 layer sets or the L shaped sets ?

there are a few places that list taito pinouts, eg
multilayer
http://www.classicgaming.cc/classics/spaceinvaders/manuals/TaitoSI_P1P2_Pinouts.pdf
L shaped
http://www.classicgaming.cc/classics/spaceinvaders/manuals/TaitoSI_P1_Upright_Pinouts.pdf

i am not sure as yet whether the bottom and top layer pinouts are consistent between games.

I believe it is what you are referring to as the 2/3 layer sets. There are three boards, and they are stacked on top of one another and connected to one another via ribbon cables. Each of the outer boards has an edge connector and the inner board does not. When the boards are stacked together the edge connectors are on opposite ends of the stacks.

I assume the L-shaped sets plug into one another, similar to how Midway L-shaped boards do?

i am assuming the same. just need confirm the mating pat nos and game!

...three boards, and they are stacked on top of one another ......
interested in how your boards are labelled ? including:
- Taito (or other) Stickers CVNxxxxxxx, TVNxxxxx, PVNxxxxx etc,
- Etching of codes on the pcb like AA0xxxxxxx etc next to a TAITO symbol (may be only one code)
- Etching of codes on the pcb like CVNxxxxxxx and CVOxxxxx, etc (usually two codes one above the other)
- labels on the Roms, on the bottom rom board and middle cpu board (may have two small proms near one end)

Well, I bought this boarsdet recently from a guy here and the board has 'Space War' written on it in magic marker. The upper most board is labeled RAN00003. The middle board is CVN00004. The lower board is RAN00002. ROMs are labeled as RA09 through RA12, though there are some empty sockets.

This one looks to be part of a (PACIFIC MANUFACTURING) manufactured TAITO L shaped space invaders black and white pcb set, according to some text on MAWS:
http://maws.mameworld.info/maws/mamesrc/src/mame/drivers/8080bw.c
Excerpt: SVNxxxxx? (L shaped pcbset) - B&W only, used on "Space Invaders" Upright with 3-strip overlay. Audio PCB daughterboard has part number SVN00001 or SVN00003. Came from factory with one of the TV romsets ONLY? Capable of running TV, SV or CV romsets.

OK got PCB #5 figured out now.
The Motherboard for this is the AA017742A, with two daughterboard alternates:
Alt 1 - Board coded SVO00714A + SVN00003A, uses all discrete TTL ics for the Bit Shifter function
Alt 2 - Board coded SVO70001B + SVN00001B, uses 25s10 ics in conjunction with discrete TTL ics for the Bit Shifter function
Refer to the link http://www.brentradio.com/images/Ot...o_space_invader_l_shaped_board_schematics.pdf for the relevant schematic.

attachment.php

there was on the sticker on the bottom rh corner that covered or partly covered the = PCB Board IDs BNH00001/BHO70001. hopefully the prev. owner of the pcb (Dez!) has some recollection of what that sticker contained.
the label on the left reads
"OK. NOT SPACE INV.
FISH TYPE GAME
HORIZONTAL"

anyone got some clues on what game this was from, and what the matching motherboard model/board id is ?

and anyone got some taito L shaped set motherboards spare,
either the AA017742A or one that may match the above mystery board ? and/or pictures of these motherboards ?

i would love to get a photo of the matching motherboard

well, the boards pictured in my post are the A version of the pcb cvo70005a/cvn00002a whereas the one you have pictured in the cvo70005/cvn00002 pcb version. physical diffs that i can see include the smaller sound ic

the presence of the UVN00005 stickeer is interesting - the taito board ids list on mikesarcade and other sources dont mention this specific sticker id. no
