Maybe try 720 arcade? With the space that's 10...

Nope, a post must have 10 characters. A search criteria keyword must be at least 4 characters I believe. Hence, you can't search for 720, rom, ram, g07, etc. If you include a 3 letter keyword it just omits that word from your search. Very lame if you want to search for example: g07 and f901 -- it only will search for f901.

like all other forums that have outgrown their clothes they tend to think they need moderation instead of letting folks moderate themselves. Alot of admins and or mods get that Barney Fife syndrome and feel like they now have some sort of power over the members of said forum and without regulation or meaning to it even that gets out of hand. Ive seen it all before numerous times. I am relatively new here but grow tired of forum politics. Set your rules to the game when you start the forum and stick with it and dont change them. Those that oppose then ban or do what you will but dont single out members for pety bullshit. Sorry if Im ranting here but I just get sick of all the organizations and special clubs or members only clubs where you become a member then all of the sudden youre not good enough or you clash with one of the mods or admins then all of the sudden that fued turns into moderation because said admin or mod has the ability to do so. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? Whatever happened to folks acting like responsible adults? Its this same type of straight line thinking that spawns all these useless regulations and pety laws we have today that allows a criminal to sue you because he broke his leg tripping over your front steps while trying to steal your jewelry. Trying to make rules and regulations to fit EVERYONE'S TASTE is just fucking useless. I know its a far cry from bullshit rules on a forum but on a large scale I believe thats how it gets created. think about it.

Hmm, as far as I can tell, none of the mods here fit your general description. If so, I would have wiped out your post and countless others throughout this board.

Hiding behind the "having fun" cloak really gets me. This board is for a specific purpose; arcade game related chatter. Don't get me wrong as I am all for joking around now and then, however, some folks really take it too far and do not know when to stop. There are plenty of sites on the "Net that cater to the crazy things that seem to ultimately go on here. It gets really tiresome to wade through legitimate posts with all of the bs littered in between.

As a mod, I use my best judgment when I edit something. Of course, you cannot please everyone all the time.

I would hope that we would all act like civil adults. I suppose that's too much to ask.

Thats the thing with moderating, you cant just single someone out and not scold the other offenders and not expect the one that got called out to not feel a bit pissed. I never understood the whole moderation thing and I have been a moderator and admin on several other sites around the same size as this one. Not everyone acts like civilized adults all the time, we are humans, its impossible. You shouldnt edit anything, its called freedom of speech and everyone should have that right. Let the members sort out their battles and difference without big brother stepping in saying who is in the right. If the tag thing isnt working out maybe remove it? Personally I never use the tag system so I cant say how useful it is but isnt that what the search tab is for? I will admit ive added my own tags to a few threads to add my bit of sarcasm and probably a feeble attempt to mock the tag system but it was all in good fun. Guess saying that got on your nerves? ;)

Sorry, on a forum such as this, "freedom of speech" doesn't apply. As a country we may be given that freedom, but if the admins want to regulate that on their site, they have every right to do so.

As for people acting as responsible adults, that would be great. Unfortunately, not everyone can do that, apparently. But petty BS and personal squabbles don't have a place in the forums. PM's between the parties involved? Okay, that's fine. But there's no reason to drag the whole board into it.

And I'm not referring to any one instance in particular, I'm only speaking generally.

Unfortunately, as boards grow, so do the potential "problems" and the need for moderators rises. It wasn't very long ago that these boards didn't have a single moderator - only the admins. When the need presented itself, we were given a few mods here and there, and it helped with the issues at the time.

I understand peoples' complaints, and I'll admit that if we're going to enforce stuff (which is not yet defined), it needs to be across the board and fair.

Mattroid, that was well said I must admit. You are now the official spokeperson for the moderators :)

Kevin

I agree.

Folks, keep in mind that there is no freedom of speech on someone else's system, whether public or not. This is mcelmore's software that he bought running on his purchased hardware using his purchased network bandwidth.

And we all use it and enjoy it for free and it's damn nice of him to run this site for us.

There is no inherent freedom of the press / speech on any private system.

If we're being told that we're stepping over the line then we need to step back. Hopefully that line will be clearly drawn and enforced in a fair way.

Mattroid hit the key focus.. it has to be applied evenly across the boards. That is not censorship, that is keeping order.

Whichever Mod deleting tags on MJ threads needs to delete all the tags or none. Just deleteing the tags of people happy he is dead is putting your personal opinion ahead of your mod job. That is censorship! Since none of the tags are relivant to a search, you should delete all or leave all alone. Practice what Mattroid stated!

Well, I don't know that's that what I said...I'm not keeping track of those tags, so I don't know what's been deleted and what hasn't, but "silly" or otherwise humorous (if irrelevant) tags are fine with me, but outright offensive tags are not. "Censorship" or not, the admins have the right to do as they see fit.

EDIT: let me revise this a bit more per some messages I received regarding my statement. I fully agree that moderation should be fair and consistent across the board and feel that there needs to be some guidelines put in place in the FAQ or whatever about what kind of behavior is acceptable and what is not. But at the same time, regarding tags, only the most obscene and offensive ones are my worry. I think the board could use a lot more cleanup and moderation elsewhere rather than having to babysit and judge each tag to see if it's really relevant or not. Like I said, the silly ones don't bother me, but the overly offensive ones do.
