What do you guys think of this game? I own a sega/gremlin cab that WAS a Yie ar kung fu. I turned it into a 60-1 but realized im not a multigame kinna guy. After stripping the cab once again, I noticed a little tag that said the cab was built a Tac/Scan. Is this game any fun? Are parts hard to come by?

I think it's fun. The gameplay is fairly unique, and Sega vectors are just cool. If you don't have any of the parts handy, building one from scratch would be quite a challenge, as Sega vector parts are hard to come by.

No parts whatsoever. The cab is really kinna shitty. It camped in my girlfriends aunts musty basement for 20 years, and the bottom 7 inches was rotten. I cut it out and made a new bottom. Its decent now, but i'm still not happy with it. There's not many games I care about that came in these cabs, and I think Zaxxon kinna sucks. So its either work on the cab some more, turn it into a 60-1 and try to sell, or drench with gasoline and make a sweet fire.

I think those are cool looking cabs. Personally, I dig Zaxxon, and I remember when it was popular in the arcades, despite its lack of staying power with collectors today. It would be cool to have a Zaxxon around just for the vibe. You could always do a 60-in-1 with Zaxxon art or something along those lines.

It was a 60-1. If I do it that way again, i'd probably sell it to a friend of mine who owns a bar. Zaxxon would be cooler to me if I could tell how high or low the things you gotta shoot are. I think i'm well above or below then BAM! POW! KABOOOOOM! DAMNIT!!

That's part of the challenge of the game. Without this aspect it would likely be very easy.

If I could find someone with some tac/scan parts I may just start another project :/

dont think i need one of those though. I really want a vector though, and tac/scan seems to be one of those games you just dont see around these days.

BTW, I may go ahead and rebuild the bottom of the cab again. Is there anyway one of you dudes who has one of these cabs give me the proper dimensions for the whole bottom half? I wanna do it proper this time, and if i decide to keep it, i'd like it be be sturdy and presentable.

This is true, and I love a challenge. It just seems to annoy me how it's set up. Maybe I should just play it more. I think it's popularity back in the day was due to the 3-d ish effects they came up with, and I have a lot of respect for that. I think the gameplay looks really cool, just isnt for me right now.

All you really need is a vector monitor and a boardset.

The rest can be hacked/cobbled together.

You can rig up a switching power supply and hack together enough of a harness to run.

A working G08 is probably worth $200 and a working boardset is worth at least a hundred.

I've had plenty of luck with multiple untested/non-working boardsets. Of course, it's nice to have a working set to test spares against.

I have a complete Tac Scan control panel in very good shape I would let go for a reasonable amount, PM if you are interested.

tac scan is awesome!!! its a fun game. love the vector graphics.

I have a complete non-working one in the restore queue. I am not sure when I will get to it, but it is nice to know people like it.

One of the Star Treks came in the same cabinet using the same boardset and monitor from what I have been told.

Tac Scan owns! I actually like the game so much that I programmed a clone of it about a year ago. (This was before I discovered MAME!)
