The game had been sitting for over 20 years. It was dead when I got it. I cleaned it up and checked all the voltages the +5 was down to 2 volts. I went ahead and got the G80 power board from Vector Labs and installed it. The game will boot up and you can play it. You can see when you press fire and add a ship but the graphics are really bad. I don't have another 803 monitor or game that uses that monitor to check it out. I think it's a board issue but just guessing. Here are a couple of pics. Any suggestions ? Thanks

That definitely looks like a board issue, bad vectors being drawn. Did you ever address this? :

If not, those pins not being connected surely isn't good.

So jelly you snatched that. I responded to that ad as well, great grab. Game looks effing awesome, hope you get to play it soon (then invite me over, I'm in mpls :D)

Yes I straightened the pins and reinstalled them in the socket. I tried the game both ways with pins out and in the socket same results. At some point in time each of the 5 boards have been worked on because there are revision numbers marked on the boards with black marker, even the spinner board on the control panel.

could be bad vector RAM. Do you have any extra 2114's or a way to test them?

No I don't have any extra Ram. I suppose I could borrow some from one of my other games to help troubleshoot the problem. I really do not have a way to test them. I have gotten pretty lucky with all the games I have bought it has usually been a power or monitor issue I have become pretty efficient at repairing those. I really need to learn PCB troubleshooting and repair. I have a Battlezone that was dead also and I repaired the monitor and got it running good. I installed the Braze high score kit hoping it would solve the problem but no luck. The game starts up and begins to play and then resets after about 20 seconds so I have some kind of board issue there also. I will have to start learning how to use a logic probe for starters and what ever else I would need. I keep adding to the collection and need to learn PCB repair.

BZ is notorious for cold solder (i.e interboard harness) and bad sockets.
And ya know, I bet Tac Scan is the same, especially if the game has sat for 20yrs. (Look for corrosion on pins too.)

Thanks for all the help. I went back and tried all the suggestions you gave. I have not turned game on yet because I did find a small cut in the xy interface cable. I ordered a replacement maybe that was part of the problem. I will know in a few days Thanks again

Pull cards and clean the edge connectors with Flitz or Near-Dull. Try self-test (push plunger on CPU board).

Douglas, would Deoxit also be a good choice for this?
