T2 sound drops out for 1/2 a sec every 4-5 secs when it warms up

I picked an absolutely beautiful T2 this weekend. When I got it home I turned up the sound a bit and after 10 or so minutes the sound would drop out every 4 or so seconds. I reseated the connectors, wiggled the sound chips a bit, and it would go away for a little bit. Turning the sound down prolongs the time before it acts up. Letting the game cool down seems to help as well, but once it warms back up the issue reappears. The purple aluminum heat sink on the sound board is getting rocket hot. So hot it scares me.

I am planning on pulling the sound board and checking to see if I can visually see any bad solder joints and reflow. I really do not know a good way to check other than that. Was just wondering if anyone had any tips as what to check.

UPDATE:

After checking a guide I saw this:

Intermittent Sound Cuts and Shrieks.
After playing a WPC game for a while (5 minutes or longer), the game sound starts to cut out or in some cases it will emit an extremely loud tone that can get louder and louder until the speaker (or your eardrum) blows. If you turn off the game and re-start, the problem will appear again very shortly. Sometimes you can play a while and it never happens. Often the heat sink attachment to the TDA amps can be very poor and cause the amp(s) to overheat. You can feel the amp(s) get red hot. Solution is to simply un-bolt the sinks, re-grease them and re-attach, making sure to use a locking washer or kep nut to stop it from coming loose.

No shriek. The heat sink is attached tight as heck. I am guessing the "grease" that is mentioned is thermal paste like you use for a heatsink on a computer CPU. Would that be correct?

Any tips appreciated

Yes. Here is a thread with more detail on how much to use:

Awersome

I pulled the sound board, unscrewed the nut holding the thinger to the heatsink, it pulled away with ease, but the heatsink was soldered in. Used a toothpick to smear a bit of artic silver thermal paste in there and tightened it back up. Just a smidge smooshed out. Went down and played 30 minutes at 13 volume (rocking) and it still has not cut out at all. I went in and felt the heat sink, it was still hot as heck, but a bit less maybe. Touched other heat sinks and some of them were about the same.

I think it is good to go. If it is not I will look at replacing that IC.

Sorry for posting when I went in and fixed it myself. Was just wondering if anyone had some secret, but it turns out it is just a normal fix. I miss the days when folks here would walk me through fixing stuff, but now that I sorta get it and can fix stuff I never get to post problems. I should of tried this before I posted, but am still glad I did.

I had a problem like that... I had to replace the diodes on the sound board and the TDA amp IC.....
