No. Using the degaussing coil resets the magnetic field of the aperture grill, which is what's presently causing your funky colors. The grill picks up magnetism from the earth's magnetic fields over time and when you drastically change the orientation of the monitor (rotating 90 or in your case moving it from an upright bench setup to tipping up to fire up into the game mirror), the grill gets "at odds" with the surrounding magnetic field and affects the electron beams. The coil will reset it and then it will be fine.
