T-Nuts smashed right through the base of my Galaxian

Both front leg levelers were smashed through the plywood on this Galaxian that I am restoring. What contributed to this damage was that someone along the way drove in huge ass screws to replace the nails that held the t-nuts in place. The bottom of the cabinet is in good shape otherwise, no water damage or anything like that. I am thinking I will just use a hole saw to cut out the damage, then fill the hole with a plug of plywood. finally replace the t-nuts with ones with a larger collar.

The wood looks rotten. Consider building a new bottom for it?

The wood isn't rotten at all, it is very solid, the screws ripped up the wood. The entire rest of the bottom is perfect. I know it looks that way by the photo, but if you were here you would see that it is fine.

Use the square plates from Bob or make some.

Those are nice!

But I think I am going to just get the "Video game leg leveler mounting plates" since I am going to be using casters on the bottom anyway.

Yeah I got some of Bob Roberts' big square things as pictured when... I forgrt what game I got like this. My Crater Raider needs it as well.

Yes they look like that they will work well! I am excited because I really don't want to do all that work just to put in the same crappy t-nuts. I can't get over that someone was able to cram those screws into the existing holes!

Bob's plates are great - they distribute the cabinet's weight over a largr area so all that wood isn't pushing down onto a quarter-sized t-nut.

Temporary Solution

I need to be able to move this cabinet around while waiting for the plates from Bob, so I came up with this temporary solution. I noticed what looks like holes for when this was originally crated for shipping. I used those 4 holes to mount 2 furring strips and mounted a spare set of screw on casters for now. I was able to get this thing rolling without adding any holes! When I get the plates I will install what I consider the best casters for arcade machines.

What was the operator thinking jamming those screws in such a tiny space?!?!

Casters aren't a bad permanent solution, especially if you plan to move it. I usually put 2-way casters in the back and swivel casters in the front, or you could use levelers in front and casters in back, makes pushing/pulling it to/from the wall a little easier.

That's wood rot. Some time in it's life it was on a wet floor and the water somehow wicks up the leg leveler bolt and the wood soaks it up around the T-Nut. the same thing happened to my Asteroids cabinet. T-Nuts are evil and just plain no good. I routed out the rotten wood on my asteroids cabinet and glued a new piece of wood in and installed the large square leg level plates Bob Roberts sells and put wheels on them.

All my machines are on casters. The ones in the photo are going to be replaced worth better ones.

Those t-nuts are much different than the mounts that are on my Galaxian. These are much bigger, kind of like the Bob Roberts type. Keep in mind these plates have been blasted and painted in preparation of the restored cabinet.

Man I wish mine had those plates! I wonder if the newer ones had those plates and the older ones had the crappy t-nuts.

Edit: those plates look very nice blasted and painted! I think I will do that to the ones on my Baby Pac!

When I've had a game with crappy t-nuts on the bottom, I'll dig them out, then align the heavy duty plates with the hole, install em, then use new levelers. A lot of the t-nuts just haven't held up for 30yrs.
