I am rebuilding a Haunted House pinball. I was following the reset section alternative on www.pinrepair.com. Clay says that the flat side should face down and that pin 3 should be on the right. Well if the flat side is facing down then pin 3 is on the left. At least according to this http://html.alldatasheet.com/html-pdf/58541/DALLAS/DS1811/180/1/DS1811.html I agree that pin 3 should be on the right, but the flat side should be up. Am I wrong about this? I also have a Game Plan Sharpshooter II that I am repairing. In his Game Plan reset section repair guide he says that you can use an MCP101-450 instead of the Dallas DS1811. The MCP101 is an active high reset device (http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/microchip/11187f.pdf) and the DS1811 is an active low device. I believe his information is incorrect about using the mcp101 as well. I think it should be an MCP100-450 instead. Can anyone verify who is correct? Me or him?

To answer your first question, Clay is correct. The datasheet is showing you a bottom view of the to-92 pkg.
I've searched around and found that the mcp120 is a direct replacement for the ds1811. I could be wrong, but the ds1811 and the mcp120 both have open drain outputs, where as the mcp100/101 don't. I would question and double check that.

Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense. I purchased the MCP101 and tried to use it as directed and found that the pinout was different than listed in the gameplan section. Then when I was trying to figure out why my reset circuit was going from high to low instead of low to high, I found the 101 was a high reset value instead of a low reset. Maybe I've got that wrong too.
