My power supply bit the dust due to corrosion on the board pins. Dokert is going to fix the board and original transformer. I was wondering if it is possible for me to use a spare transformer that I have as a temporary replacement. The one that came out of the cab was labeled as follows:

5610-09658-00
37-8152
115/230 50/60 HZ

And the spare is labeled:

5610-09535-00-A
37-8127

They look very similar, but are they indeed interchangeable?

The key to that will be the output connectors coming off the transformer. If it is an older style (Defender/Stargate) it will have a 12 pin connector. If it is a later style (Robotron and later) it will have a 15 pin connector. There are 2 additional wires on the 15 pin connector that carry the 6.3VAC for general illumination (coin lights) that are missing on the 12 pin connector. Otherwise the first 12 leads are the same on both.

Which is a long winded way of saying yes. But if you have the 12 pin version make sure you plug it in correctly on the 15 pin connector on the power supply board otherwise you will blow the power brick fuse at the least and possibly the circuit breaker for that wall socket as well. (Not that that has ever happened to me ).

I'll try to remember to look at my list of transformer numbers when I get home.

The transformer numbered 5610-09535-00-A is a Defender transformer. It should have a 12 pin connector. Your original transformer (5610-09658-00) was a Robotron and later transformer and it will have a 15 pin connector.

The picture below shows a Robotron power supply board connected to a Defender transformer. Pin 1 of the header is to the right. This lines up with the socket for pin 1 on the connector. The last three pins of the header should not be connected to anything (left side of the header).

You should notice the absence of the yellow and white wires on the Defender connector.
