Switching Happ Competition Joysticks to Sanwa Joysticks in a Jamma Cabinet

Hey guys,
I did a search on there and maybe i wasn't filtering out the results the greatest, but has anyone gone from Happ joysticks with the 4 microswitches to the Sanwa Joystick JLF-TP-8YT-R ? I see the wires are colored for the plug in then there is the ground which i guess you can splice into button grounds.

Anyone had any luck doing the conversion? I am just curious as the mounting holes will have to be drilled into the CP to accommodate the new joysticks.

Thanks

I thought you were putting Happ comps in there.

I can't answer your question now, but in two days when my Sanwas show up I will have more info on the process. I am going from Happ to Sanwa.

I did get Happs. I was thinking down the line if I wanted to go that route, how difficult it was to get the wiring done.

Let me know how it goes. PS. my T-Molding got here. Wish i could put it on but have no idea how to sand the red off my cab without getting dust everywhere indoors. Its winter here now.

Sanwa JLW joysticks have the microswitches with tabs. JLF's have the PCB mounted switches with wire harness, is there a particular reason you're going with JLF's?

Well these came with Happs. and I figured I would keep the game kinda original by going with Happs. I have a Sanwa joystick and buttons in my SF4 Arcade PS3 Stick. I like the feel but we shall see.

I only asked because the JLW's are drop in replacements for the Happs. You can install JLF's but I believe it takes a little modifying you your part. You'll probably have to drill a few more holes is all. Other than that the wire harness can be split and stripped so that you can wire the JLF's in.

Shakes fists at sky. I wish I had known. I ordered what a friend recommended. Hopefully it won't be too much of a hassle.

This will be my first fighter restore so I went with friend's recommendations.

You will like the Sanwa's btw. I have it in my PS3 fight stick for SSF4 and it rocks. Although it feels very soft, its something get used to for a few months more. The buttons are robust and take a pounding. You will not regret them. Happs are good for the vintage look and feel.

I got my sanwas in. You shouldn't have to splice anything. They come with a harness. You'll just need to disconnect the up, down...from your existing harness and re run them. I a going to try and get a nice five pin molex similar to what it on the PCB for mine.

I'll snap some pics when I get these going. Probably next week as I need to install a new CPO too.
