Switcher install question: i want to put a switcher in my Pac Man Cabaret. im going to use the 60 in 1 board that requires no hacking with the new style jamma adapter in case i want to install the normal pac board in the future again stock. it also uses player 1 and 2 buttons for jump, etc so you dont have to hack a control panel either. anyhow, in full size uprights, you are supposed to tap the ac voltage needed for the switcher at the marquee light. cabaret pac mans have (5) 12 volt (161) bulbs for marquee, not 120v ac bulb like the full size. so, where is a safe spot to tap into AC in a cabaret?

the monitor.

there's a lot of people that think "isolation" in isolation transformer means the AC is separated from other AC devices in the cabinet. the isolation transformer actually removes neutral, so it's effectively 2 hots coming out. you can test this yourself, measure continuity from either monitor AC wire back to the neutral on the plug, it'll always read open.

many of Arcadeshop's switcher conversions actually instruct you to use the monitor AC wiring.

alternatively there should be a line filter in the cabinet, you could grab power off there.

I like to tap it off of the line filter or the inputs to the monitor's iso. Make sure you wire your FG to the cabinet's ground strapping.
