Swapping CPS2 Games? Is it easy? Converting to MAME?

When you convert a cab to a mame machine, you support kicking puppies in the face.

It was just something my roommate asked me. I just ordered another game from ebay (Marvel vs Capcom 2) and I am looking for Aliens Vs Predator.

So I guess my only question is how hard is it to swap the games out?

Bad news... Marvel vs Capcom 2 isn't a CPSII title... it's not compatible... and I do believe it's a MEDIUM RES ONLY game so you can't even use it in the same cab without a monitor swap (I'm not 100% on this, there may be a setting for low resolution). It's a NAOMI title, meaning you will need a whole NAOMI system (unless you bought the whole system)?

Swapping CPS-II boards takes all of about 2 minutes. Swapping complete systems takes much much longer.

If you bought a "Blue" cartridge then it's Marvel Vs Capcom not Marvel Vs Capcom 2. You can easily tell the difference because like FrizzleFried said it's a Naomi system. Not to mention the difference in price can be as high as $350. MVC2 runs on a std resolution monitor.

Swapping out CPS2 games is a fairly simple operation, won't take much time at all. Hell, throwing other JAMMA boards into that cabinet wouldn't be too difficult, especially if you get the edge connector somewhere that boards can sit temporarily easily. If you're going after a bunch of Naomi games you'll want another cabinet just set up as a naomi system.

Fun fact: people who gut fully working arcade machines to turn them into mame cabs also kill children when they're bored.

Well, if you want to restore the the machine you're going to want to remove the CPSII system, remove the JAMMA harness and buy a JOUST (I believe) PCB, harness, etc. Your cabinet was a Williams cabinet to begin with. I'm not 100% sure if it was Joust or Robotron or Moon Patrol, but it's Williams Classic for sure.

I just got an Marvel vs Street Fighter machine (CPS2). I was wondering two things.

1. How hard is it to swap out the CPS2's like this one:

Thanks!

To swap out CPS2 boards -->

if your new B board is already connected to an A board --> disconnect the 2 harness connected to CPS2 boardset in the cab and connect them to the new boardset that you want in there.

if you only have one A board --> disconnect 2 harness from boardset in cab, swap B boards, put boardset back in cab, reconnect harness.

Make whatever cosmetic changes to the cab you care to do.

If you are into getting into CPS2 stuff, learn how to change your batteries. Chances are your batteries are the originals and 10 years outside of their intended life. With CPS2, dead batteries = dead board until phoenixed.

Thanks for the info, I saw the video on replacing the battery. It might be a project for next weekend after I order the soldering equipment and security bits.
