Swapping a computer monitor into a Donkey Kong cabinet?

I have no current need to do this, but just out of curiosity, if my Sanyo were to take a dump and I wanted to stay up and running while repairing the monitor, could I use a standard computer monitor as a temporary replacement, and if so, what would I need?

I see a lot here and there about connecting a "modern" MAME setup to a "vintage" Sanyo, but not much about doing the other way around (connecting a "vintage" game board to a "modern" PC monitor).

So, I'd start with the standard Nintendo 6-pin video out cable. Where would I go from there?

Does something like this exist?:

(One that actually matches the Nintendo video cable?)

What about power? Obviously I couldn't just plug the PC monitor into the isolation transformer at the bottom of the cabinet, so I assume I'd have to plug in the monitor's power cable separately from the cabinet's regular power cord.

And of course I'd need the video inverter as well.

Who is doing this (there must be somebody) and how are you doing it?

That adapter obviously won't work... You'd need to use something like this in conjunction with an inverter:

Whilst plugging the monitor into the iso would be unnecessary, it would be acceptable to do so.

To be honest I think it's a terrible idea. Countless members do chassis repairs. If for some reason the tube was no longer usable I'm sure you could source a replacement from someone.

Yeah, I don't know if the Nintendo 6-pin matches any kind of standard, unfortunately, so I don't know if any of those RGB-to-VGA cards would work.

One of these days I'd really like to see an old arcade board hooked up to a newer CRT or (horrors!!!) an LCD, just to see if it's REALLY THAT BAD. I'd like to judge for myself.

Do we really need to cling with unrelenting masochism to these deadly 100 pound nightmare-tubes and their 10,000 ready-to-fail parts? Some of us just wanna play old video games, not to have to become experts in obsolete display technology!

You'd need to replace the plug. Hardly a difficult job.

MAME will give you a very good idea of how bad it will look. It's also worth mentioning that modern TV's have trouble syncing with many games.
