Does anyone know of a source for Star Wars Upright Marquees OTHER than Arcadeshop? I purchased an Arcasehop version back on 4/25/11... it wasn't installed until the end of May. Here it is 14 months later and the damn thing is already developing multiple cracks at the bottom bend and top bend. 5 years? Acceptable. 14 months? Not acceptable.

Any suggestions?

I would imagine they are more prone to cracking from the constant heating and cooling of the marquee. I do not know of another source, though. Sorry.

did you use heat to apply and form?

Yes sir... I used the same method I used for Tempest (also from arcadeshop)... and Tempest is 4 years old and still going strong. Some "warming" with a heat gun (not too hot) at the curves...

First off... I'd like to kick the shit out of the guy at Atari who decided a marquee "overlay" was a good idea.

Since the game uses florescent lighting, there is very little heat/cooling plus the cracking is at the corners where there is wood behind it. Bottom line is that the material isn't up to snuff IMHO.

that is suprizing

unfortuatly arcadeshop was the only source for screened.
if you want to try an inkjet I can hook you up with that

I will keep that in mind. I've actually send an inquiry to Steve. I asked how long the marquee SHOULD last before cracking.

:)

A loaded question? Maybe.

:D

Mine is doing the same, and my Centipede Cabaret is also doing it. I use a heat gun to warm the bends before hand as well. The centipede started cracking in less than week.

Sucks, but it still looks better than what was on there.

I think they call it Patina.

heh frizz.... does your sw marquee let alot of light through??

thats why i just kept my og marquee on my star wars.... its a lil beat up, but still looks better in the dark than the AS repros (imho).

Unless mine cracks in half and looks like absolute crap, it's staying in place. It takes me about 9 months to build up the courage to replace a Star Wars marquee. The last one I did turned out halfway decent, but the one before that was a $45 disaster.
I agree, the clown that came up with the marquee overlay needs his butt kicked.

my original has some cracks on the bend but it looks GREAT lit-up. I guess I'll be leaving it where it is!

I 'had' to replace mine... the one that was on the cab when I got it was a beat to crap Empire Strikes Back marquee...

:(

As for light illuminating it... it does a decent job... but the colors aren't the best ... but I'd be perfectly happy if the damn thing didn't crack.

ive noticed this alot on the "wrap around" atari repro marquees....

my crystal castles has that same issue..... just too much damn light coming through the marquee, just doesnt look right.
