Hello all. Proud owner of a Upright SW with Spaeth kit.

About the kit. I have the switch sitting to the read of the cab. I will rewire that to the front coin door area for better access.

Currently, to be safe, i turn off the game / switch / turn back on to switch between SW and ESB. I saw a video here where someone is switching during the game / while the machine is on.

Does anyone know if that is possible with the kit so as not to damage it OR are there further modifications needed in order to do this?

It would be cool to wire the switch to the front of the machine so the player can toggle.

Thanks...

The kit is made to switch with a momentary switch. The switcher circuit generates a hard reset for the CPU to ensure that the game code doesn't run off into the weeds and corrupt that NOVRAM, as often happened with Clay's kit (which used a toggle switch to hard-select ROMs).

The jumper selects which game comes up on boot, but you *could* replace that with a toggle switch if you really want to, but that'd leave you with the same corruption issues as Clay's kits....

I'm not too sure my NOVRAM is surviving switching/long time no activity. I recently powered up my SW cockpit again after a long time, and my hi-scores were gone. I've seen it happening before that time too.

Anyway, was it this video ? If so that's me :)

About the switching, it's a bit of a hit & miss what game comes up after the switch is pressed. Mark suggested to ad a cap, but I haven't come round to do that yet.

Hi - there is a toggle switch already there - flick one way and its SW and the other its ESB. But again, i do this inbetween power off.

Hudson - it sounds like I can do this safely based on your response? I would hate to blow this thing up....

And yes - that is the video I saw on the switching.

Are you sure you have a mspaeth kit and not a clay cowgill kit? The spaeth kit should have a momentary switch...

I had one of Mark's kits in my Star Wars and wired it to a momentory switch that was glued to the coin chute. When you press the coin reject button the game would change!

Gret kit Mark!

I agree that the OP probably has Clay's kit.

Placing the switch button on an upright is easy enough (coin door area).

But what about the cockpit ? I think I will mount a very recessed button under the angled board under the CP. That way it's 100% out of sight if you are in any normal position in or next to the cab....
I'll use one of these:

Nice smooth, not sticking out but still easy to feel, vandal resistant :)D) and ....free because we use them a lot at work :)

Hi - Took pics but no need to post them yet - decided from the advice here to give it a whirl. Switched and it worked (with game on). My settings seem to save between states (games) - but havent checked HS since i reset them and havent had a chance to set the top three yet. I will verify that these are saving.

The prior owner told me it was a Spaeth. Wow - Hudson Arcade - great mod and thank you.

Now, I will re position the switch and, need to wire up a fan to keep the Amplifone heat away. Thanks everyone.
