after much guidance from Doug, my AVG board has come back from the dead. from help with what to check, basic understanding of theory of operation, even reading the crappy atari schematics we got this working only using theory rather than a shotgun process of elimination approach and changing only 1 item , the ls244 at location 1N.
my hats off to you Doug! you are definatly the Master JEDI of Atari SW repair, to be able to guide a noob like me through this ( my first attempt at real board trouble shoot and repair)
thanks again ! your humble padawan
Ls1Chris.
now lol it still exhibits some unstable display activity in the bottom 1-1/12 inches of the screen. in the first few test screen the white "press aux coin to continue" the white lettering droops from right to left to the point of touching the green border. the green screen with the x type pattern ( cross hatch display pattern) is similar but has jumpy-ness in that lower area. the red screen that the manual . the last red screen "raster screen display" show similar to the manual then condenses to a bright red "blob" in the lower left section.
>i have the brightness turned way down for testing<
i am going to post pics in homes that maybe someone has seen and repaired a similar issue.
QUICK TIP in my trials i did find that a dead RAM in position 3L will produce no video like the AVG is dead.
Chris.
