And now that the market appears to have saturated its supply/demand, they're only going to get cheaper over time.

Survey: Do you think the demand will ever outpace the supply again? Or are we just old nerdy dinosaurs?

(This came from another thread that I felt justified it's own)

.

You didn't make this thread a poll?

I think our group - the nerdy dinosaurs - are the only ones interested in these, anymore... So there is a *little* supply and demand. But people eventually find their grails, and stop buying, or definitely slow down buying more, unless the price is too awesome to pass up.

I'm still trying to get all my friends hooked on the idea of owning games, if that helps our demographic out at all... :D

Don't forget there is going to be a trend toward smaller homes now too so lack of space will be an issue as well for new blood. Personally I think there is no growth in this hobby and there probably won't be for the older games but they will begin to break and disappear even more someday.

I think there is still growth. There are more people coming in to the hobby than leaving as far as i can tell. I got into the hobby before I had internet in my house. Once the internet became mainstream the hobby really took off. Will it grow like that again ? No. But i do think it will grow. A lot of people that might have bought a classic will settle for a multigame. I find that kind of sad. Also hate to see "collectors" constantly gutting classics to make them. Pretty sickening. It won't stop me from doing what I can to buy games, restore them, and encourage people to buy and play them. Nothing like the real thing.

As long as people part out games, supply will dwindle. Of course over time we'll dwindle too. So its a crap shoot.

I do what I can to get games in my friends house.

I picture this as a lifetime hobby. I am certain my kids will be into it at least a little bit.
They love to play them, at 2 and 5 years old. :O)

I am certain, once I take down the twin galaxies tron record, some young hotshot will be after me, and I will be right back at it when I am 80 teaching them whipper snappers a lesson.

I think we are just nerdy dinos.

I've been in the hobby for a little while now...seemed like I could NEVER find good games for sale until the last 2 or 3 years. Now that I have too many games in my collection, cheap games seem to just fall into my lap. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there is def more supply then demand these days. A lot of people just don't want to dedicate the space to a cade and the economy is just forcing some people to liquidate what they have cheap. Def a buyers market right now.

I hope it flips around AFTER I get all my grails.

Lets not forget that high unemployment and a 2 year recession could be a factor.

if there is still interest in these old games many years from now, it will be because of multicades and mame, most kids nowadays never even had a chance to play a classic.

I agree. It's a shame though because most games don't play properly without the proper input device - trackball, dual joystick, steering wheel, yoke, etc...

As home sizes get smaller, we age, and parts start to disappear, I'm afraid our hobby is going to dwindle. So let's not screw over other people looking to get into the hobby. Share knowledge and cross-train to keep this hobby alive.

I love having an arcade at home where multiple people can play games at the same time instead of everyone sitting on a couch watching two people play. It's an experience that is to be savored while we can.

Thanks for everyone's input!!!
