Surf Planet: Graphics Problems
I obtained a Surf Planet PCB from a vender on eBay a couple of weeks ago. When I tested it I found that there were severe graphical problems with the game. Basically wherever there are contrasting light and dark objects, such as black text on a white background, the screen appears to be smeared across those raster lines.
When I looked at the game manual online it showed that the PCB had to be installed in a cage with a special filter board between the PCB and the JAMMA harness. The PCB I had did not have a filter board or the cage, so I assumed the graphics chip was screwed up from not having the filter.
I immediately found and purchased another Surf Planet PCB, this time in the cage with the filter booard (plus the joystick!), and thought that would be the end of the troubles. However, the new PCB has the same graphical problem even with the filter board in place.
Is anyone familiar with this game who might know what the source of the pproblem might be?
