I was told to try here with arcade issues from a few people over at Digital Press.

Basically, I got a Surf Planet that appears to work just fine including all buttons (well, I do not have a test or switch button installed as the board before it has those on there), but the joystick does not seem to be registering at all.

I would be stellar if I could simply just hop into test or something and not use the Surf Planet joystick at all, but I fear that I am required to use that joystick.

Has anybody ran into an issue where everything else in the game works but the joystick, either that or can give me some pointers on things I should check personally?

I should also add that I noticed that one of the wires on the joystick did not seem to be properly connected, so I resoldered that wire. I still seem to be getting the same issue though.

The issue is that I get no response from the joystick, and it also seems like somehow the game is stuck thinking that I am constantly holding right on the joystick

I might have to actually install a test button to go into the bios and check to see what that is saying, but I read in the manual that if there is an issue with any component, that the game would not start.

Your joystick is plugged into the small header that's on the edge connector board on the PCB right? I don't really now much about this game other than I took a working board and joystick out of a Dynamo cab and have the parts sitting in a box. ;)

Yeah, everything is plugged in. I have not talked to many people that have put this board/joystick into another cab.

I even went a step further tonight and made sure that there was a ground connected to the board itself (if you are looking at it where the jamma harness connects, it would be on the left side).

Even though it is a simple game and not the best one in the world, it is one of my personal grails, so I want to do everything in my power to get this working.

Even if I have to use an 8-way joystick and get no analog movement, I can live with that (very disappointing since I do have the joystick as well).

I did find the manual online (pretty easy to find when it is on klov). So I am going to attempt a hard reset since it is possible that somehow some saved settings are making this run already when it should not have.

At least since you have one, if worst comes to worst, I could sweet talk you into maybe plugging it in down the road. I am really hoping the warm reset on it does the trick since my cab itself is not the newest (works with games in the mid to late 90's), but it does not have a test button installed, which is something I will need to do sometime later (and I am now regretting selling off all of my extra buttons).

EDIT: A reset didn't work. It only detected stuff for the processor and that is it.

It is weird, everything works, I mean everything (sound, picture, coin door, start button), but the joystick does not work

Apparently, I forgot that I had a kick harness under the coin door, so I am going to just unplug the 2P start and connect the test button to that for now

I got into the test menu and managed to get the to controls, and like I suspected, the joystick is held all the way to the right.

Even when the joystick is not plugged in, it does the same thing and thinks that I am holding it to the far right.
