I just happened to see a screenshot from Superman by Taito, and the graphics look like they were done by the same team that did Rastan. Now I love Rastan, is Superman any good? I think I will check it out in MAME tonight.

I like it....Most don't.
I hear you there, but I guess he has to be able to take some damage if they want to take your quarters. Still, it has to be better than Superman 64.My biggest problem with Superman isn't the repetitive (but awesome) music or the fact that the gameplay gets boring, it's the fact that they made Superman a wimp. Too many enemies beat the living daylights out of you, simple objects harm you, etc, etc.
Missed opportunity is what I think Superman was in the arcades.
Do you like Rastan too?
Rastan rules... I didn't realize it was so popular. The music when 40 bats come charging at you still freaks me out a little bit... Awesome!
Never even knew there was a superman game before this thread except for the Atari 2600 version which was the 3rd worst game ever behind ET and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I still have all the Superman comics I bought as a kid and one of them was a re-telling of the idea of a blue Superman and a red Superman. The KLOV entry also mentions this as a possibility for why they changed the color. Also I really enjoyed the Death and Return of Superman game that was on the SNES in the early to mid 90's. It was a standard beat 'em up, but it also had a problem with repetition, though not as bad as the arcade game. Was there ever a good Superman game? They always seemed to arbitrarily limit his powers so you couldn't really get the 'Superman' feel. As mediocre as it is, I think this arcade Superman is probably the best Superman game ever made.
PS I always thought that 2nd player Superman was kind of weird. When I was a kid my friends and I called him 'confederate Superman' since he had that grey cape. Used to play that one at the gas station a lot.
