Okay, so I don't know where this would go or even if this is the right place to be asking this, but I am building a SuperGun and need some help with a choice of a monitor. I have two possible candidates, a Tandy CM-4 or a Princeton HX-12. I know the Tandy is a TTL monitor, but I'm not sure about the Princeton. I would prefer to use the Tandy, but I've heard that TTL monitors cannot display arcade boards. Is this true?

interesting question. as far as computer monitors go, I think only a select few (from the 80s, I might add) are capable of displaying a horizontal frequency of 15 KHz (standard resolution in arcade terms).

don't quote me, but I think the Tandy might be able to do this. I know some older Apple monitors have been used for test rigs.

not trying to be his marketing director or anything, but you might want to consider buying a video converter from JROK (www.jrok.com) and then you can just use any TV with your supergun.

what did you conjure up for controls btw? I was thinking of using some parallel port parts I got at radio shack awhile ago and running wires in my HotRod SE controller to it, and doing the same on the other end. then I could hook it up with a male/male printer cable. :)

I'm afraid the video encoder is a bit out of the price range I want to spend on this project, I want to use as much as I already have.

This Tandy monitor CAN in fact run at 15Hz. Here are the pinouts:

1 Ground
2 Ground
3 R (Red Video)
4 G (Green Video)
5 B (Blue Video)
6 Intensity
7 No connect
8 Horizontal Sync
9 Vertical Sync

So I connect both of the grounds, the RGB, skip intensity, skip a connector, I guess I skip horizontal sync too, and connect vertical sync.

As for controls, I am going to wire up Neo-Geo ports and use Neo-Geo to PS2 adapters.

So, I will be able to use the Tandy monitor, right? I'm going to get a crimp rather than solder connector just to test it.

Welcome fellow Digital Press member. Over there I'm TheDomesticInstitution, but just thought I'd drop in and say Hi. Sorry this isn't a help post per se, but at least it's a free bump. Good luck with your Super Gun, there's a lot of knowledgeable folks here.

Thanks, I figured I would ask over here because it's more specialized. That and both myself and Arasoi are interested in an answer.

Plans changed, I'm going to use an AppleColor RGB Monitor, which is workable as shown here:
