Why is this game so hard to find?
I see lots of the Super Street Fighter 2, but no one has Turbo.
Was this version rare or something?

I think that most of these were converted to Street Fighter Alphas, Street Fighter 3, and other Vs games. You would probably have the best luck finding a board on ebay and popping it in a Dynamo cabinet.

I think he was talking about the board. Yes it is more rare. Aside from the ones that died from Suicide, people really just hang on to it cause it's the final version of the series and by far the best one. I have one and I'll never part w/ it.

I've got one as well and it won't ever leave my grasp! I have a hyper fighting turbo and the world warrior as well (All PCBs) as well as my one dedicated machine that I need to finish restoring.

I think if I got any of them is would be Anniversary Edition. Although I was wondering if the games are emulated on that version.

Is Super Turbo the last CPS2 version?

Yep all emulated.

Its just the last of the original Street Fighter 2 format. Though technically Hyper Anniversary (2003) edition would be. Its MUCH rarer than Super Turbo though.

For one, I'm pretty sure there wasn't a huge American run of this game (not rare, but not overflowing either...definitely not as many as regular Super, considering that was the big CPS-2 launch game). For two, it still has a massive competitive following. The last NCR had an all supergun Super Turbo competition. Super Battle Opera in Japan STILL puts the arcade version of this game in its line up.

It's also one of the very few "still currently played" competition heavy Street Fighters that does not have an agreed upon good console port (and there is a lot of subtle rumbling about readopting the arcade version and dumping HDR). The game is literally cursed to never have a proper console port. People who have worked on ports for the game have said there is a lot of weird shit with the source code. It's like a delicate eco-system where one small tweak in one place can suddenly effect the entire game. Tweak one move's properties and for some reason, some other characters random move does something really strange with no logical explanation. Something about how they actually put that game together (supposedly a jumble of CPS1 code with a bunch of new weird stuff on top...hence "old versions" of characters appearing in the game). I think the damn game is haunted.

It's by far the one CPS2 board I regret losing (and I am looking for one if anyone has one). It's a bad ass game in its own right, as long as you have other people that play it. CPU is notorious for being the most difficult fighting game AI ever. Another oddity of the game.

Edit: Was OP talking about the board itself or the cabinet? I believe it was a regular Super version of the Capcom big blue with a Super Turbo marquee. I have a Super big blue that I'm gonna "turn into" ST (just placing board and Marquee in it). Has the Super control panel with the maps and characters on it...and even the regular Super manual still stapled inside. :p

Yes I know technically yes if you consider a mashupn of it and all versions bellow it.
Meh... not for me... also I'm not sure if it was the console version first and then also rev'd on the CPS2 system for Japan only. Seemed something like that.

No I don't have a dedicated for it. I list what my dedicateds are dressed as.
I have it as my unlisted stack of boards. My VAPS board list by far out of date also.

By your accounting everyone has it cause everyone can have MAME. Do you even have a dedicated for mame or do you just play w/ a joystick at your PC?

Yeah I know that Digital Eclipse has a hard time getting it just right. The ports stay in test way too long. One insider's fact is that Capcom does a very poor job of archiving old source code. Many ports rely on emulation and if they want to make it native, it's almost like re-coding from the ground up. Even CapJ has to do it this way also.

Yup it is by far the most popular of the classic SF games.
I know the anniversary edition was a japan release only so its way more rare.

I hope to join the super turbo club one day; then we can run ST tournaments on my supergun as well.

How about upgrading a super street fighter into super turbo? Or is that harder to do?

I already had posted before what I have done for games.
And I bet I am enjoying ssf2t more than you playing it on mame rather than having its pcb ditched somewhere and feeling good only because I look at it and thats all for it :)

It's out earning money. More than you can do with MAME (especially looking silly on a LCD screen.)

I actually don't have much fun playing at home actually. The competition level w/ people that visit my place don't match what's required to make it fun for me. I had it with me when I worked in game publishing so that I could play with the QA guys that always were up for a game.... ST, Alpha 3 etc... in my Namco Excellena Blue machine. You would love it... Sanwa stuff all around. GT-Y gates etc...

thats good
I am just a gamer and a big one
yeah it looks silly on lcd screen,we agree on that, thats why I play it in a hacked crt tv

Well that's SOOOOOO much better.
You always have to have the last word huh?

EDIT: (so that he has the last word)
LOL, SOSAGE.... that's awesome... yes you may have the last word. +1

Can I have the last word?

ST > every SNK fighter ever.

UH OH! I just extended this thread for 2 more pages.

I guess its a choice of game. America mostly plays HD Remix and Japan still plays Super Turbo. I think its because Japan is true to the arcade and only plays on arcade when it comes to tournaments.

I still want a super turbo cps2 board.
Is it possible to upgrade the roms from a super street fighter 2 board?

I've heard rumors of it being done w/ bootleg boards but have not actually seen someone do it locally.

Where are you located? I'm in the Chicagoland area, and I had a tough time not getting a turbo when trying to find my CE. I run across Turbo very often around here (of course now that I have said that, I will never see one again), maybe its a region thing?
