Hi all. A friend just got a strange looking tabletop game called Super Space Strangers.

I'm sure some of you know of it. Anyways it's in very good condition. Very clean. But, when powered on, the video only displays a bunch of lines,

and what sounds like the ufo that zips overhead in Space Invaders is constantly coming through the speaker. I re-seated all wire harnesses, and checked all wires visually. Any ideas? I'm a novice when it comes to electronic issues. I fix computers for a living so I'm no ID10T (well, most of the time). Thanks.

I had one of these a while back. It had issues when I got it. I replaced all the caps and found a chip that had a leg hanging out of its socket. Worked great after I fixed it.
I found a japanese yen jammed up in the coin mech...still have it. Good luck finding any info on the boards, doesnt seem to be any schematics for it around.

Thanks for the replies. I will check all the chips for bent pins. I don't see my friend paying (me) for a whole cap replacement.

I'll post some pics of the boards tonight.

Here's a pic of the PCB. Everything looks good so far. I didn't re-seat the chips yet.

Mark, I think they were 100 pin edge connectors...at least two in the machine and there were some short ones too if I remember right.
Not on a card, a harness.

Hmm... i've got an Omori boardset that's set up the same way...

Seems like the harness would need to be pretty complex, if there's no other interconnect between the boards. I guess you don't need many signals between the CPU and sound boards, but if the CPU and ROMs are on separate boards, that must be a mess... heh.

Well I re-seated all socketed IC's and threw it back in the machine. Turned it on and whammo, I now got Space Invad, err, I mean Space Strangers shooting down at me. Works great. No loose Yen found though. thanks for everyone's help.
