Hi all,

So my super punchout is working about 99% but one last bug I have is when the opponent goes down, as he is falling there are jailbars through his character (with the exception of Vodka Drunkenski).

Today I checked all the eproms at 2R, 2T, 2U, 2V, 3R, 3T, 3U, 3V, 4R, 4T, and 4U and they all checked out ok. After testing the game again, it got a little better and a little different (Dragon Chan has some jailbars when he begins his flying kick also) so I'm thinking it's a socket issue.

Now, without desoldering all 12 sockets and replacing them, how do I accurately find out which socket(s) are responsible for this?

Here is a snippet of the schematic with a coincidental comment on one of the connections, labeled as CMP-UP and CMP-DWN. I know that the CMP section are the opponent roms (champion) so I believe this is the issue that is occuring is that correct?

Now, maybe I'm blind, but I can't see further on in the schematic where the CMP DW signal goes to the eproms. It does go to: 5W pin 11, and then pin 12 of 5W is connected to 5B a LS138 pin 10.

So I guess I'm confused as to why reseating the CMP eproms "helped out" the issue and that CMP-DW signal doesn't go to the eproms? Or am I incorrect? If so, how do I figure out exactly which eprom is responsible per the schematic?

Huh. Not sure if this is conclusive.

I made 2 rom image files, 64k and 128k and filled them with FFs. I then started up MAME and replaced each of those eproms I fooled with earlier (2R through 4U) and there were quite a few other anomalies in the opponents, but no jailbars when they were going down, or at all.

So I totally expected one of the missing roms would have jailbars, but nothin...

(I'll take some video of the issue in hopes it will describe the problem better)

Here is the media of the opponent falling:

I'll post an update.

I am waiting on a digikey order that has been sitting in the Dallas USPS hub for a couple days now. I am hoping to get it sometime this week.

I was looking at the wrong portion of the schematic. So I checked some chips that are on an "UP/DOWN" line (5W, 6S, and 5A). 5W and 6S checked out fine in my tester. However, when I removed 5a, 2 of the pins fell off (pins 8&9). I also de-oxited the entire eprom bank, cleaned the legs etc. I haven't re-tested it, however I'm hoping it's more than coincidental the legs were possibly broken.

It's hard to tell. I'll take a look at the video again, if replacing 5a and the other work didn't fix it.

Replacing 5a did not resolve the issue. :(

You could remove an entire bank of Eproms, 2R, 2T, 2U, 2V for example, and see if the jailbars still show up when the opponent spins. That would at least narrow down the possible sockets from 11 down to 3 or 4.

Sean did it in one of his videos around the 12 minute mark.

Thanks, I'll try that next.
