I finally got around to repairing the cold solder joints on the Super Pac monitor tonight. I put everything back together and fired it up. Monitor came up, colors were good, heard a little "sparking", which turned out to be under the anode cup. Discharged, cleaned it up, put it back together..... and the game won't boot. Checked the fuses...good, then I see the bottom connector on the power board and the top 2 pins are burnt.
Why would sparking under the anode cup lead to a burned connector on the power board? Not sure if any other damage occurred to the game pcb itself yet, i dont see anything burned on the game board, nothing blown or hot or melted.

No. Separate problems.

If you get bad connections on those pins/sockets they start generating heat from the current flowing across the resistance the bad connections are causing. This starts a cascading problem of more resistance and more heat.

Replace the connectors.

just seemed odd that it worked and everything was in spec.... then i work on the monitor and goes. throwing a switcher in tomorrow until i get this power board sorted out.

Well, it's back up and playing blind.
New issue. The wire from the flyback to the neck board was very loose before I attempted any repairs, when the game came up today the sync was a little off, resoldered the sync line. Still have a little lightning on the back of the tube, but the anode clip was also a mess and a rebuilt that today (new flyback it it's future) I then noticed that flyback wire still being loose, and the entire solder pad was almost completely lifted from the board. This is the same wire that was stretched and broken when i got the game,so I'm thinking this contributed to it. I tried glueing it down and it did no good.Currently the monitor flickers then shuts down, thinking because the wire from the flyback isnt making a connection. Suggestions on what i can use to fix the pad that will stand up to the job?
Monitor is a WG 19K4906.
