Hello Gents,

I currently own a Super Pac-Man, completely original. All wiring and boards are original. Everything looks to be in pretty good shape. Everything was working perfectly as should. Until I purchased a new power cord and high save score kit. The parts were ordered from The arcade shop. The parts arrived quick and packaged nicely. I began to install the parts. The power cord was easy. Just unclipped the old one and installed the new one. I then disconnected the harnesses from the cpu pcb and the video pcb. I removed the chips as indicated on Steven's website. 1b and 1c from the cpu board and the ram from the video pcb. I replaced the boards, connected the harnesses back up and Upon plugging the game in and turning it on, the lights came on the monitor displayed some scrabbled lines then went black. I have no sound, no monitor, but I have power to the lights.

Now, I have an email to Steven from the arcade shop. I have not heard back from him yet. It's around the holiday and I'm sure he is busy. I'm sure he will get back to me soon. I figured I would post my problems here to get some more input.

I have checked all my wire harness connections. The chips appear to be seated properly on the boards. I'm new to this hobby so I'm not sure if it matters which way the chips are installed. Looks like they can be installed two ways. I checked all fuses by eye and they appear to be good. (I need to check them all with a multi-meter). I'm not sure if it matters but I did also notice that the power cord steven sent me is wired up a little different. The harness connector is the same but the black and white wires to it are switched. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yes, chips can be installed backwards. you have to face the notches the correct way.

since the CPU is on the HSS, you probably have it installed backwards.

Yes, it matters. There should be a marker of some sort to indicate where pin one is. I'll try to illustrate:

----------------
|========C
----------------

One end will be "flat", the other will have a half-circle on it. It's not completely through the chip, but you'll be able to see it pretty easily. Make sure that the "C" part shown above is oriented properly. The PCB should show you(it will be below the socket on the board) which way it goes.

That's the good news.

The bad news, is that it's possible that if you did put it in backwards, that it may have been fried. It's not definite, but possible.

Best of luck to you!

Have you tried to Uninstall kit and put back the way it was originally?

Black and white wire doesn't matter for plug.

Yes I have replaced everything back original with the same effects but it is possible that the original chips are in back wards as well. I will try both sets with the chips installed correctly. I was unaware the chips could be installed backwards. Thank you guys for the quick responses. I will let you know what I find!

Well with the original chips installed correctly. I'm still getting the same results. Black monitor with no sound. I'm almost positive I'll get the same results with the high score save kit installed. I can't believe I did this!

The ram chip with battery from the high save kit does not indicate a direct. It does not have a notch on either side. It is flat on both ends. How do you tel if it is installed properly.

It should have a dot in one corner. Whichever end the dot is at, should be considered the notch.

why are you saying the original chips could have been backwards? you said the game worked before.

if you installed the HSS backwards, or plugged the CPU into it backwards, you probably popped the 6809. and who knows if you damaged the HSS in the process.

because I installed the high score kit backwards. Then trying to see if I could get the game running again I re installed the original chips. I installed those incorrectly also. Stupid rookie move!
