I have a 2 player super off road machine that has the "track pack" installed. I would like to convert it back to original and not the track pack. Are the roms different for the 2 player version and the 3 player version? Also, where could i get the original roms from? Thank you

-Tom

Check through the MAME sets and find the one you want.
Then see what chips your board uses (27C010, 27C512..etc)
and have someone write them. Steph from Hobbyroms or Ray from Arcadecomponents
are always a good choice.

There are two problems with that conversion/deconversion

1- Super Off-Road has a security chip, which is replaced when doing the Trak Pack conversion,
so you can not do a simple eprom swap, you also need the correct security chip.
I don't know if the security chip has been cracked, but I haven't figured out how
(...which I'd love to do because I get alot of requests for the Trak Pack upgrade.)

2- The other issue is cost . The conversion requires about 28 eproms.
Given the increasing cost of blank eproms, and the work involved of programming
that many chips ( ~ 3hrs ) , you could buy a working boardset for much less.

In fact, my recommendation to you is to look for a non-working boardset
and poach the eproms and security chip.

Good luck.

steph, do you happen to know if the security chips are the same between the 2 player and 3 player versions? The reason i ask is becuase i think all of the roms except 2 of them are the same between the 2 player and 3 player versions. If the security chip was the same between them i could get a 3 player version, and only have to get 2 ROMS written to convert my machine, which is a 2 player. I am having trouble finding 2 player boards, thats my problem. Thanks for the help!

I am kinda finding out that there might not be a 2 player specific version of the original Super Off Road. I know there is a specific 2 player track pack version. Does anyone know of any settings in the menu that are for 3 or 2 player cabinets? If you look online at the roms you can download, there only appears to be the original, track pack, and 2 player track pack.

Any help would be great!

steph,
What is the part number of the security chip on this Trak Pack conversion?

steph,
What is the part number of the security chip on this Trak Pack conversion?

The security chips are both located on the bottom board:

U85 : PAL16L8 (Label 02-22) <=== Security Chip

U120 : M9346 16-bit Serial EEPROM [8-pin] <== Game Settings

---

I don't know if there are differences between the 2-player and 3-player
security chip (non-track pak)

THREAD REVIVAL!!!!

Working on some Off Road boards and thought I'd chime in.

To makes your board a 2 player it looks like the security device at U120 might also need to be changed on top of changing the ROMs at U58 and U59. Oddly enough the same device will run the three player software but the 3 player device at U120 (labeled T3245 and might have resistors soldered across the top).

The device at U85 seems to be the same between the software versions.

The 2 player U120 has "272" written on top of it.
