Hi All,

Is there any way to remove the bearings from the Super Off Road steering wheel assembly like in the pic? It looks like knocking it out would be the only way but wanted to confirm before I start hitting it with things :D And if it does come out does anyone know the replacement bearing to use? I've seen the 6002-2RS mentioned as the right one but the post doesn't mention if it's for this steering wheel assembly or the other one.

Or do you need to buy a whole new unit? I'm going to degrease them and try with new grease but obviously bearings don't live forever.

Thanks

What's the number on the bearing? They are either pinged in or loc-tighted in. They will push out.

The designator should be on both sides. The number 6002 references both the ID and OD of the bearing. Any measurements should be referenced in inches.

You were spot on both times. A few firm knocks and it came out. The markings on the side are England NSK 6002Z.

Thanks very much for the advice. Seeing as they're the same dimensions as the 6002ZZ and it has double side shields would there be any reason to not use the 6002ZZ instead? I know it's effectively sealed by one bearing at each end of the assembly but the price difference is minimal so may add to longevity

Edit: after thinking about it and reading reviews of bearings the single side shield would be better to be able to manage the quality and volume of grease. A number of reviews mention the bearings feeling like there was too much grease used

Similar spot to OP and have questions.....
  • Did these bearing replacements work? 6002Z - NSK Deep Groove Radial Ball Bearings
    • or did you re-grease the original

  • Can I re-grease these without taking the bearing out?
  • Can I get the bearing out with simple tools? I don't have an puller or presses, just home tools.
  • If I were to re-grease what would people suggest? I literally know nothing here.
