Guys,

I have a super GT deluxe in my arcade - the one that kind of rocks back and forth left/right as you go around turns to make it feel (supposedly) like you're racing. It worked fine for 10 years, then all of a sudden it doesn't seem to work right in game mode.

I've replaced the steering pot, and I've recalibrated the settings for center on the steering and the angle of the cabinet. Both pots seem to be working just fine and accurately. The motor seems to work perfectly in test mode - it will roll right or left if you tell it to in the test mode. So in test, everything appears to be functioning perfectly.

But in game mode, as soon as you start the game, the cabinet turns all the way to the right and just kind of holds in that position. If you push and try to force it out of that position, it will sometimes pivot all the way over and stay to the left. But seems to avoid the center position. This is the opposite of the way the game seems to operate when working properly. It normally sits mostly in the middle, but pivots left and right when needed.

Any idea what could have gone wrong or where I should look?

Thanks,
John

Is steering feedback OK? Cab motion slaves off steering if I recall correctly. No one has asked me about these in 20 years.
I do remember calls on same issue after moving cabinet to different location. Required correct leveling of cab to keep it from binding.

Thanks Ken. I was actually going to call you about this (and still probably will). It is really a mystery to me how it works. I need to take the cover off and examine again.

But IIRC, you're right that the steering feedback is tied directly to the belt and motor that moves the cabinet left and right. What puzzles me is that nothing physical prompted this. The game hasn't been moved or disturbed, but just started this behavior out of the blue. And the two pots that detect steering and car position both appear to be reading perfectly (and one is brand new).

Makes me think it must be a failure on whatever auxiliary board controls the motor that moves the car back and forth. But that's just a guess. Is there something I could send you to test? Or do you have any troubleshooting suggestions?

I would just disable the movement and have people drive the car stationary, but there isn't a software setting to disable the movement. I suppose I could just unplug the motor and wedge something so it can't move from the middle.

Thanks again for responding.

Le me know if it is a Servo driver issue. I do have new old stock of these. Best to call me when you are in front of it and we can go over stuff.
