Hey Klovers,

I just purchased a Super Chase (http://klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9881) cab from a local guy, the game is in perfect shape and its going to be here this week! (I'll post pics when it gets here) -- It seems to be impossible to find technical details about this game at all on the internet; and this is going to be my first racing cab.

Am I right to say that It seems that most racing games all use their own custom format and are not jamma based? I havent had a look at the innards yet; but If I was, one day, to try to convert the cab to another title, would it require getting a new compatible steering wheel, pedals, etc? If so, I wish things had been more compatible..

And don't worry, klovers, I won't slaughter a classic cab to make an awful monster. I was perhaps thinking about eventually turning it into a custom Daytona USA convertion job maybe next year.

I doubt most folks here would view Super Chase as a classic, but I understand your enthusiasm. I love all machines, from mechanicals to simulators and beyond. You will surely encounter incompatability when it comes to the wiring harness. Also keep in mind: Is the gas pedal driven by an analog potentiometer or a simple on/off switch? (don't recall what Chase used) Is the steering wheel optical (spins freely) or pot/analog (has limits, returns to center usually) ?

You'll hit a lot of technical snags if Daytona is your goal. It might be more realistic to build adapters so that you can install games like World Rally, Cisco Heat, Big Run, etc that all use similar hardware and could be swapped out in minutes. A full set of Daytona boards would be quite costly, in comparison.

there is also easy ways to hack into the controls and run a simple $30 xbox with driving games. And if that is the case, you can also mod the xbox and install shit-tons of arcade racing games.

I just bought a dedicated super chase also last weekend. Needed a new flyback so I replaced that and it now works. Next I have to replace the three bulbs in the marquee. This cab is the weirdest config I have seen yet. It does not have a large back door. It has two, one medium size in the bottom and one near the top that you can barely get two hands into. When changing the flyback I said to my self, how the hell am I supposed to work on this thing? I had to take off the marquee, speaker grill, screen, and bezel, then the monitor comes out through the front. Its a 25 inch monster screen, unless yours has something else in it. Overall it gave me no issues during or after assembly. I have searched everywhere for a manual of any kind but like you I found nothing. I need to change my dips as the game counts down before you even get to the criminal you are chasing. I also want to switch it to free play. I may just start hitting random dips to see what they do. I also thought about looking into other taito drivers from 1992, maybe the dips for those games have the same settings as chase? Dunno. Anyway I love the game and I wanted the first chase HQ but this will do for now. A common issue with that game is the shifter will not stay in low unless you hold it there, it should stay in any gear you shift it to.

I'll try to take a snapshot of the settings on mine and send it to you once I get the cab at home. I havent asked the guy if the game was set on freeplay; the cab was used at home so perhaps it is.

It's pretty crazy that you had to do all things to get access inside, wow. I'll check it out. I loved that game when I was a teenager, so randomly stumbling on it for sales is pretty awesome

I'd like to compare the two machines to see if there are any differences. I used to own the game for the SNES and never saw it in the arcades but as soon as I heard I could get one last week I jumped on it.

I have all 3.. SCI, Chase HQ, and Super Chase... The Chase HQ has a steering problem.. I rebuilt the steering gear as it was broke.. but still doesn't steer,, I haven't posted it to work on it yet...

maybe I just need the optical sensor on the steering gear.. would like to try one anyways to see if thats it..

I was gonna line all 3 up in a row...

I love the blinking red/blue overhead lights during pursuit... I like to play banjo music during my pursuits too...
