There are other means now. Including Tools to reprogram the Kabuki after a battery replacement, and an "Infinity key" that installs between the Kabuki and the PCB and reprograms it on boot.

Both allow you to retain the original encrypted ROMs and no PCB modifications.

expensive but a good way to run the board without a battery and still have original Encrypted ROMs.
