Hey all-
I was thinking about this the other day, as I am going to remove the battery backed 68000 off of my Turbo Outrun-
How the hell did the battries last this long?
The games are over 20 years old, and some of the batteries are still good- I still see working PCB's- that look unmodified. Obviously, if they are working, the battery hasn't died. My Turbo Outrun is original, and still works- so the battery is 20 years old!
Just my random thoughts....

How are you planning to replace it? With a replacement from segaresurrection.com?

Mine still works too, but a couple weeks ago i decided to do the sega res. kit on it before it did die, i've got it all put together but havn't put it in yet as i have the regular outrun board running right now.

I am going to replace it with a kit from Sega Resurrection. I'm amazed that the PCB still works. Everytime I turn it on, I'm expecting it to find the battery dead. 20 years- and the thing is still alive-

lithium batteries dont act like AA batteries over time in that they dont slowly lose voltage. lithium's hold at 3.6v till the last second, then they die. i think you have about an hour after battery disconnection before you lose encryption. plenty of time to solder in a new one.

I'm pretty sure that the Sega's die immediatley when they lose the battery voltage. I know Capcom will give you a few minutes of soldering time.
