Recently purchased a Xmen vs street fighter pcb, I have a few others I am probably going to obtain. I don't really have a lot of technical know how quite yet, but I understand there are ways to "phoenix" these boards. Any services out there that take care of the issue or are we just on our own? id hate to mess anything up, especially with what these are starting to run nowadays.

Phoenix is the older method. there exists a thing called Infinikey and it can be had from Paradise Arcade Shop. there are also decrypted roms for many of the more mainstream games.

I've done a battery replacement and reprogram of the encrypted ROMs and encryption key, reprogram with phoenixed code ROMs, and Undamned's Infinikey.

Without a doubt, I prefer the Infinikey method. It's cost-effective, a super simple install, and keeps the original code with no risk of another battery leaking or dying.

The biggest pain in the ass of all of it is removing the Capcom security bolt without damaging the plastic if it's on the B-case.

You could refer them to the suicide battery hotline. The folks there could talk the battery out of committing suicide...................

seemingly for years every CPS2 I ever changed a battery on didn't have this until I had to open a MVC1 or whatever else. I don't even remember what it looks like now, but I totally understand what you're saying.
