I usually never trek into these parts of the Mech Music and Juke Threads, but now I have a question, so perhaps you guys can help me out. Consider me a Juke Noob, and in fact I really mean complete dumbass.

I would like a wall mount jukebox, nothing outrageously expensive, it's only for my basement arcade. My only requirement is that it must be able to play 45's (I hate digital music). From what i've read, most wall jukes must be spliced into a "home" juke, so if that's the case, I guess my questions are...

1) Do I really need another jukebox that needs to be the "home base" for the wall mount to be spliced into? Is there a such thing as a multiple 45 player thats not as big as a full size juke?

2) Do they have wall mounted jukes that actually self contained or hold 45's? If yes are they affordable, reliable?

Thanks again

Yeah, Rockola did make a few models that were wall-mounted and 45rpm records. Good luck finding one, though. I've never seen one out there.

Otherwise, you will have to have a "base" juke and buy wallboxes for it. No other way around it, unless you want to take the CD juke route.

So you actually need an entire juke (the base) and the wall mount gets spliced into it? Is that correct? Are they all compatible meaning all wall mounts can splice into a base juke, or only certain models can match?

They are not all compatible to everything. For example, a Rockola wallbox won't work with a Rowe/AMI. A Rowe/AMI wallbox won't work with a Seeburg.

Just to give you an idea of what's involved: I had a Rockola 454 juke. I then had two of the 507 wallboxes but to make them work with the juke, I needed the 1769 stepper motor. (Sad thing is that I never hooked them up and sold the package). So, you would need the base juke, the wallboxes and a stepper motor.

If you are set on having a wall mounted juke, I'd suggest getting a CD juke. It'll hold a LOT more songs. I think some have built-in speakers, but I know others you have to hook up external speakers. I've read that NSM is a nice sounding juke but a bear to repair. If it was me, I'd look for a Rowe/AMI CD wall juke for a compact one. If size wasn't much of an issue, I'd definitely look for a Rockola 100. It has a base if you want it to be a free-standing floor juke, or it can disconnect from the base to be hung on a wall. Very pretty design, too.

I've got an NSM Wall Performer it requires external speakers. Also the CD Players in them are junk. The CDM-12 was one of the last ones and they almost always skip or simply can't read after a year or two of use. There is a kit at Happ to replace them.

The Firebird, Thunder wall and Emerald Ice are all basically the same NSM wall mount style and also require external speakers.

Generally speaking, most wall boxes required a mother unit to function, yes. Except those rare models made by Rock-Ola.

I once owned a Rowe R-84 and loved it but they're a nuisance for parts. Rock-ola parts are a lot easier to come by I think. Both Rowe and Rock-Ola are great sounding boxes though. I just bought a Rock-Ola 460 and I'm very happy with it. It fits in a bedroom closet, the front door can easily be removed which gives you about 1/3 less weight when moving it around and parts are regularly available all over but especially at Victory Glass and Durfee.
