I'm wondering what other machine I would want to finish off my collection.

I grew up in 1987, the JAMMA age, and I quickly found (through my friend's arcade collections) that the best cabs came about well before I was on the scene. I love the classics, especially vectors, and my collection reflects that. What other game should I seek out?

I can't think of any big names that I'm missing. I don't want lasers, I don't want Star Wars. I passed up Sega's G08 Star Trek because the hardware scares me and it has a great port on the ColecoVision. The games from 1987 and up have been reproduced well on consoles. I'd like to play Space Lords (1993) again to see if I really want to dedicate that much room to a game. Light gun games are not that appealing, I've played Terminator 2 recently, Operation Wolf and Mechanized Attack don't have the replay value I crave. I can't see any games that would necessarily be better than what I have already. I still haven't sold any of my games and do not plan to.

So you can help, here's my collection out of VAPS:

PRE-CRASH (till 1984)
Armor Attack
Asteroids Deluxe
Centipede
Galaga
Ms. Pac-Man
Night Driver
Omega Race
Pac-Man
Spy Hunter
Star Castle
Tempest

POST-CRASH (1985+)
Aero Fighters
Alien Syndrome
Altered Beast
Assault
Aurail
Devastators
ESWAT Cyber Police
Golden Axe
Hang-On
Quartet 2
Raiden 2 DX
Shinobi
Sky Shark
Sky Soldiers
Strikers 1945 II
Toobin'
Twin Cobra
Xybots
vertical 60-in-1
horizontal MAME

Star Wars. Even if you're not into the movies, it is a very good game on it's own. I'm not a big Star Wars fan (indifferent mostly), but after playing the one at High Scores arcade, I had to have one and now I play it all the time.

A good friend of mine has a Star Wars, I've played it and I think it is over hyped as a game. It also came out very well on the Gamecube on a Demo disc that I own. Now that I own a color vector, I actually prefer the sharpness of black and white vectors.

I also have two pinballs, so that's covered.

Old guy collector, seasoned, as in I've been collecting/fixing/restoring arcade games for a number of years. Not old, of course, early 30's.

Easy Peasy you need a Robotron

Two of my local arcade friends have one, each. I actually like the old PC game llamatron a bit more (by the YAK, who also did Tempest 2000).

I've never been a fan of the Nintendo cabs, but I do like their consoles. Mario Clash on the Virtual Boy was fun...a little red...but fun.

A Space Invaders would fit nicely into that collection. If your looking for a latter title - one game that I thought wouldn't last long (in my collection) is Primal Rage. Everyone still likes to play it, and i was never really into fighting games, but it's a fun one.
Space Lords is a cool game too, I was at ATARI when it was produced however your right about the space, it's got a big foot print.

I would say tron, track and field, mario bros would be a good addition

I was going to say Robotron as well. And also Black Widow....but it's color and you said you prefer B&W vectors. Which makes no sense at all to me but to each their own! :)

Star Wars came with an Amplifone monitor which is medium resolution - sharper than your Tempest, but less than your Asteroids Deluxe. It would add more variety among the technology in your collection, but if you don't like it, you don't like it.

Tron does have a great cab...good suggestion. I've played Discs of Tron and at least Tron would offer more variety. Space invaders is a good piece of history, but I think it's a bore :) I've played Elevator Action and it is fun, but perhaps not wow enough. If I had the space, sure, but....I have both Taito collections on the PS2 and part 2 is on that.

I have Primal Rage on the 32X and I like it. The Samurai Showdown series is my favorite though. No, I don't want a Neo-Geo cab either...

Seriously though, how about a Marble Madness?

And you have a nice lineup of games. Even if it just stays where it's at, it's a great collection.

If you can find one (or build one) a multi-Williams based on the JROK board would be a good addition. That would help beef up your pre-crash collection. Otherwise, one of the iCade 60n1's would get you a bunch of the lesser (but mostly still fun) games without having to dedicate a lot of floor space for each cabinet (the Pacs, Frogger, Mappy, the Galagas, the Donkey Kongs, etc.). I used to look down on the Multicades, but I find myself playing games that I like, but just not enough to dedicate that much space to them.

Other people can't make this decision for you, and you're proving that by not really liking the suggestions. No Williams games from pre-84 hurts a solid game list, IMO. Time Pilot or Phoenix would also fit nice.

This really was a great post! Ha,hah,ahh..great picture. Not a bad suggestion at all for Marble Madness, system 1 I think. I would have the option to quick convert it to RoadBlasters, Indiana Jones, etc. Qix, Mappy, Dig Dug, Time Pilot, etc are all on the 60-in-1 board. Very fun and worthwhile purchase especially for my stuffed collection. I can squeeze in one more dedicated game though.

I would suggest some Williams games- Joust, Robotron (already mentioned), Moon Patrol, etc. A multi-williams would be a good addition (already mentioned), but the JROK is missing Moon Patrol, which is definitely a great game. I would add a unique Atari game like 720 or Paperboy to that list. Definitely some great ones there, but Williams games/cabinets are some of my favorites and always show well in a gameroom. Other good Midway cabs besides Tron are Burgertime and Satan's Hollow (which looks great next to Tron!).

I would suggest Cheyenne, Crossbow or Chiller. I know you say you're not that into light gun games but these really don't fall in the same category as the others you mention. they actually have a lot of replay value and are very fun games.
