I have been running down a dead knocker (unsuccessfully). I believe everything is working. So I thought I would replace the edge connector pin at pin 6 of the pcb. Thats the one that grounds the return voltage of the coil. But after I cut the wire and tried to replace it with the ones I got from bob roberts, I found its a different size or it just won't fit. So my question is, does anyone know what size of pin and where I can find replacements for the factory original size. I can say it is an amp connector 30/60 two row edge connector. Didn't see them in bob roberts parts list. Any advice as to what to do. Emailed Steve young on a complete kit and he said I should try bob roberts. So it sounds like he doesn't have the edge connector. Let me know if you have any thoughts on it. Thanks.

Its an oddball size and you probably wont find one new. If you do find a source post it here because alot of people can use one.

As far as the knocker goes, do you have 30v on the knocker coil? If so, its likely your problem is the transistor on the main board. There's 4 of them on the top right of the pcb, I think its the second one from the right if I remember right....check the schematics. If you dont have one you can steal one of the other ones. One is used for coin counter or coin lockout, somthing like that that you can live without. The transistor is readily available but you can steal one of the others until you get one ordered in.
Also, make sure the dip switch for the knocker is turned on. This is often overlooked :)

Yep, that's an Amp connector....the pins you got from Bob are Molex. To my knowledge, I don't think Amp connectors/pins of that style are made any more....unless you want to meet a few thousand minimum. Then they'll make you a batch :)

If you have a part number I can probably secure a couple thou from my supplier.
....The molex pins WILL NOT fit in these connectors.

I cut the wire and pushed the pin through the plug. Stripped the wire down and manually grounded it to the frame. Kicker kicked hard and loud. I have been chasing down ghosts in this cab since I have had it. Purchased a 100% working pcb and still no knock. Repaired both the transister and the flip flop chip on the original pcb and still no knock. I have come to the conclusion that it was either the edge connector or a loose ground strap. Cut the wire thinking I had a replacement pin to stick in it. Didn't think about them being scarce. Oh well, live and learn.

I have had the same problem on mine. 30V to the coil, dip switch for knocker on, no knocker. Hope it is the transistor you mention. That would be sweet.

Its not uncommon to see these bad. Usually if the knockers not working its either no 30v, bad transistor or the dip is off.

I think the transistor is a 2N6044 if I remember right. TO-220

Don't forget, the knocker has it's own fuse. Make sure it's good. Although, if you have 30VDC at the knocker....the fuse is good. Nevermind.

Like I said, I get the knock on a brand new knocker with a manual ground. Replaced everything on the old pcb with regards to the knocker circuit. All that was left that I could think of was the connector pin not making contact to ground the coil. Worst case scenario, I can run a jumper plug to the output of the transister. That, or solder the wire directly to the board. Or just give up on a knocker. Got to hit up a few techs for the pins. Surely one of my local repair guys have one.

Here is the part # or at least the closest thing I can find.
583989-3-ND

This part is available from Digikey, Mouser, and Newark. But the price at all of them seems really really expensive. Anywhere from .75-1.20 a piece. And Digikey & Mouser had large mininum orders on this item if I am reading correctly. Anyone have a cheaper source or can verify that this is the part. The original plug is a 30/60 pcb edge connector with the part #: AMP 583695-1

It would be nice if someone could verify the above pins fit the plug. I believe that the board may be .156 spacing as it looks the same as the standard molex board connectors. If molex had manufacured a 30/60 pin edge connector the two would be interchangeable.

Are you sure that number is right? I'm not finding anything (I tried Mouser and Newark).

remove the -nd and it works.

This is the closest i could find -
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=583361-3-ND

Gotta order 100 of em, but, they're only 51 cents each. I wonder if you removed the pins from the amp connector and tried them in the molex edge connector if they'd work or not. IIRC, Pole Position, and Galaga both use that same connector. I've run into that situation before. I think i just ordered the edge connector from Bob and replaced the edge connector and used new pins.

I'm still hunting - i'll see if i can come up with anything else.

here's a list of suitable replacements -
583989
583361
583272
583394
583271
583991
583270
583993
583269

I found this by reading the datasheet for the edge connector itself. I also include a screen capture of the datasheet- i'd post a link to it, but i forgot where i got it from initially - thats all thats of interest in the pic, though.
