I need to replace a few bulbs under the playfield, and I can't seem to get the playfield vertical against the backbox. Is there a trick to it with these data east machines? Im a total noob so I am fairly sure I just don't know what the hell I am doing. I can get it up against it, but if I let it go it will come crashing back down, and that would not be good...

depends on the model as playfield slide mechs changed sometimes, but usually with data east you have to lift it up, and then manually pull the back of the playfield towards the front of the machine

putting it back is similar, lower it, push it back and sometimes you have to lift the back of the pf a bit before it'll go into position

On my Jurassic park, there is a thick rubber strap attached to the bottom back right corner area of the cabinet. On the underside of the playfield, near the bottom on the right side is an eyehook. When you lift the playfield all the way up, you can attach the strap to the eyehook and that keeps the playfield fully upright for working.

It takes a bit of pulling to get it on there, but it holds it securely. Not sure if it is factory, or if the previous owner did that, but it sure does the trick nicely.

It's Factory. It's also on my Star Wars.

You can also pull the playfield up, forward, and onto the side rails, and as far forward as it will go (there are stops on the rails) and then lean it back against the head. Just a word of caution as there is nothing holding the playfield in this position and it can fall, so I strap it to the head to keep it from tilting unexpectedly.

yep, also on DEs Batman and Checkpoint as well

I was wondering what that eyelet was on my buddy's Star Trek 25th. Can someone post a photos of it raised with the rubber strap in the correct position?

count me in the "i had no idea what the hell that was for" group as well.

so it basically pulls the bottom of the playfield towards those wooden stoppers? i guess that's enough to force it to hold in place?

I did not know that they had Rube Goldberg on the payroll. Pretty hokey if you ask me, but hell if it works.....

Yeah, pretty much my thoughts. Check it out on a Hook. Pardon the dust...in restoration.
