Anybody ever saw a cockpit cab in half for the sake of getting it where you want it? I have no choice but to do this with a PP game, but I have no experience. I have one friend who did this with a PPII cab.

Anybody else ever do this?

Split where the factory joined it.. just screws

The back half's speakers will un plug and the back half can be carefully set on its back or what ever is needed to move it.

Front half.. Remove the monitor (and boards if you like) and you can easily lift it on its back

Use a couple of furniture dollies or skateboards and some help..

Show us where it needs to go.. Im curious?

I have one of these too.. have moved it for several years to a few places.. HEAVY is an understatement

The joke.. Atari Lead cabinet , rings true.. =)

Good description, Bryan! I don't have any pics, but it's going down a flight of stairs leading to my gameroom...it's not a bulk head. I'd have to see it to try doing the 'operation'. Question, would the first thing to do is unscrew the screws on the floor? I figured it would be.

The monitor is out. I plan on putting in a Vision Pro in there. I just gotta figure out about the placement for it. There are no holes for it to be set horizontally. Heavy duty clips to hold it in place, maybe? Thoughts?

Maybe not saw in half, but certainly have disassembled a couple to get them downstairs. I had to be real careful as they were not meant to come apart.

But does go back together easily.

Killer, so the screws at the top side, close to the bezel, come out? I'm trying to pinpoint where you started.

I first removed the canopy. There are a couple screws on the outside and a few on the inside. The inside ones are under plastic caps and are recessed fairly deep. It also is stapled/nailed and glued so you have to pry very slowly to get the glue to peel apart. The canopy also has some screws in the back too.

The next step is to remove the two back sides. These are a bit of a pain in the ass as the screws holding them in place are located between the two base panels of plywood. The ones near the back end are easy, but they continue up the whole panel and reaching your hand up the channel and trying to get them out is a pain. You can't see in the pictures, but I took out the trusty sawzall and cut a couple oval shaped holes in the bottom layer of plywood to get access to the screws -- no one will ever know they are there. You will also have to overcome the staples and glue for these back pieces as well. I just went slow with a screwdriver as a pry bar and slowly peeled it away.

Before I removed the back sides I removed the seat to get that out of the way.

Puttting it back together is a bit easier. I just used the screws and cut all the staples and nails flat to the wood. The aren't really needed and it is very stable with just the screws. It also allows it to be easily disassembled again if needed.

The hole in my wall from moving in a 6 player X-Men made it easier to get a Red Baron cockpit and now a Pole Position cockpit downstairs. Walls are overrated.
Not in my case, lol. The overhang wall is concrete, with pipes behind it. Had it been just about a foot higher, there would've been a chance to get the cab in there.

This is where my game is at. What do I do with the plywood on the floor? Is that the only piece that needs to be sawed in half across? Your other 2 pics don't show. Thanks!

The other 2 pics were these.

I never cut the bottom piece on mine. I just took the sides and seat off and was able to make it down the stairs. The cardboard silhouette really helped on how much I had to disassemble and which way it needed to be orientated to fit down the stairs.

In the end, it was worth the aggrevation.

hmm, ok. But, still...how did you get it to separate into two pieces? My cab has the top taken off, the back of the seat out, monitor out, the vinyl floor board peeled back rolled up around the pedals. I have a piece of plywood to contend with. I thought maybe staples held all that together? I just can't pull it apart to separate, and there's a pissload of glue there. How did you actually split the floor w/o taking a jigsaw to it?

This thing won't lick me!

I never split the floor. I left the front part connected to the bottom floor. That was enough to make it down the stairs. This is as far as I needed to disassemble. Then flipped it on the back and slid it down the stairs. With just the bottom board pointing up the stairs, it was easy to start to rotate it near the bottom of the stairs so it cleared the ceiling.

Yes, the parts that I removed did have a pissload of glue with some staples. I just pryed slow to snap the glue free. Took some time and lots of patience.
